I know life is complicated and you would not be seeking therapy if you were not in one of those complicated moments in life, whether it be about a relationship with your spouse, your child or simply with yourself. My goal is to help you find a way to navigate those muddy waters and to make life not quite so rocky. I personally have a passion for parents and kids. I have worked in the field of child welfare and adoption and have seen the impact trauma has on the young and the old. I recognize how early childhood trauma impacts an individual throughout their life and impacts all relationships.

I am a licensed psychologist and EMDR Certified Therapist and Consultant. I approach my work with compassion, seeking to connect with you, understand you and what has you coming for therapy, then structuring the therapy and implementing the EMDR protocol to get you from where you are to where you want to be. I make effort to listen deeply and bring warmth, collaboration, playfulness, an engaging style and specialized skills to our work together. While many therapeutic approaches focus on understanding and managing symptoms, with EMDR we have the potential to fully resolve the issues which lead to your symptoms.

If you're reading this, pat yourself on the back because you've taken a big step by starting to look for a therapist. Finding a shrink is a big task; if you're like me, you probably avoid it until things get pretty bad. If you're currently riding the struggle bus, I can relate, and I'm here for you. I genuinely love this work and am passionate about helping people overcome whatever is holding them down. Life's struggles aren't meant to be faced alone. Let's work together to help you start feeling like yourself again.

Just like every client is different, every therapist is different, and it's important to find someone who you like working with. We could be a good fit if it's important to you that you can talk to your therapist about anything and not feel judged. We might be a good match if you are someone who is willing to try new things, as a lot of therapy is thinking about things in a different way. Also we might be a good match if you enjoy humor in your sessions. Therapy shouldn't be all miserable. I aim for 25% miserable, tops.

Adoption Therapists
Does my adopted child need therapy?
Not every adopted child needs therapy. However, many can benefit from seeing an adoption-informed therapist, especially if they were victims of abuse or neglect, appear withdrawn or disconnected, have behavioral or developmental issues (which may or may not be related to their adoption), are struggling with feelings of grief or loss surrounding their birth parents, or find it difficult to establish an identity, a challenge that often becomes most apparent during adolescence.
When should adoptive parents seek therapy?
Prospective parents can benefit from therapy even before an adoption—for example, to voice worries and fears; to reconcile infertility struggles, if relevant; or simply to prepare themselves for parenthood. After the adoption, parents who are struggling to bond with their child; are unsure how to talk about adoption or related issues, such as race; or whose child is dealing with developmental, behavioral, or psychiatric concerns can address these and other issues with the help of an adoption-competent therapist.
Is family therapy appropriate for adoptive families?
Family therapy can be invaluable for strengthening the bond between adoptive parents and children, helping the latter feel more secure in their place in the family. Family therapy can also help adoptive families navigate complex communication issues—for example, parents who feel uncomfortable discussing race with their child, who in turn feels invalidated by their silence, or a child who has questions about his birth parents but avoids asking them out of fear of hurting his adoptive parents’ feelings.
What therapy is not appropriate for adoption issues?
A discredited therapy known as “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy” or “rebirthing therapy”) should not be used to treat adopted and foster children, though it was largely designed for this population. Attachment therapy involves restraining, coercing, and punishing the child in order for them to “release” negative emotions and attach to their new caregivers—techniques that are abusive and dangerous and have even proven fatal in some cases.
