I believe that we all have tremendous potential for healing and improving our relationships with ourselves and those around us. From the time we are born, we are met with messages from society at large, the families we grow up in, and the systems and institutions we interact with that inform how we see ourselves. But what if some of that information is flawed? Figuring out our own truth can be incredibly challenging when we have been working with bad facts. I provide my clients with a non-judgmental space to see themselves with clear eyes, and increase safety, harmony and understanding in their relationships, to reach their goals.

I am a licensed social worker that has always dreamt of being a one on one therapist. I have worked for over ten years with that goal in mind. I have a strong passion for supporting those who are so often disenfranchised and overlooked by the constructs and rulers of society. I have worked as a crisis counselor and in long term care, which honed my ability to hold space for trauma and loss. I now hold that space for clients in private practice. I truly believe that transformation is possible.

The wise Jedi master Yoda once said; “Pass on what you have learned. Strength. Mastery. But also weakness, folly, failure also. Yes, failure most of all. The greatest teacher, failure is". We often seek out therapy because something within our soul yearns for change. Multiple parts within us, all with their own voice, habits, and desires, vie to be heard. Some parts may believe failure is something that makes us lesser. American culture steeps us in the idea that shame is a good motivator for change, but it only creates more pain. By exploring our shame, our failures, our pains, and what we deeply yearn for, we can grow.

As a couple, family, & individual therapist, I honor the importance of our inherent human need to be in fulfilling connection with others and ourselves. And I recognize how difficult this can sometimes be. Whether you're feeling disconnected from your partner, overwhelmed by the level of conflict in your day-to-day family interactions, going through a major life transition, or seeking individual therapy to explore how past hurt and current challenges are constraining you from more fully inhabiting your life, therapy can be a powerful tool for growth. I offer a free consultation to explore our possible work together.

Hello! I’m happy you’re here- whether you’re new to therapy or a seasoned therapy go-er. A little on how I work with clients: I like to listen deeply- not just to what is said, but also to what might be behind the words. Feelings can be so deep, complicated, and layered sometimes- so I like to take the time to make sure I am understanding the unique stories and experiences my clients are bringing. I may ask you if what I reflect back resonates, or if there's more you'd like to expand on.

It takes courage to reach out for support during times of struggle and hardship. I provide a safe and nonjudgmental environment where clients can build self-awareness, a feeling of wellbeing and confidence, and coping skills to face life transitions and obstacles. I draw from a variety of therapeutic modalities from experiential therapies (play, art, and sand tray) with young clients, to cognitive behavioral, solution focused, and narrative therapy for older clients. I believe in tailoring a therapeutic approach that is specific to the individual needs of each client.

There is a lot of pain in the world, but you don't have to carry it alone. My approach to practice is primarily relational, with a focus on how we interact with the people and social structures within which we exist. I utilize a variety of modalities, drawing mainly from CBT, Attachment, and Person-Centered care. We'll work together to find an approach that is best-suited to meet your needs. Neurodivergence is of special interest to me, but I strive to affirm everyone who joins me in this work.

I work with individuals and couples seeking to connect: to themselves, to their bodies, to others, or to a sense of meaning. Many clients initially feel stuck in their lives, or misunderstood by the world, or (sort of) ready to face the trauma that seems to define them. I love working with a variety of adults, but I specialize in treating highly analytical/logical people, highly sensitive people, neurodiverse clients, religious trauma, and body acceptance issues.

Therapy can suck. Wait, I’m not supposed to say that right? But it's true. It's hard to place a word to a thought let alone a feeling, and if there has been trauma in your life too? I work with autistic individuals, teens, men, trauma, spiritual trauma, anxiety, depression, and all of the things in between. We can make therapy work for you by focusing on solutions that make sense to you and have you move toward what you desire. Through reflection, compassion, and humor, we can get to work. I believe you have the answers you seek inside already; it's just up to us, you and me, to figure out how to access them.

Being alive in a complex and unknown world is difficult, as humans we are daily managing our emotions, instincts, desires, frustrations, confusions, and joys. This is no simple task, and difficult to do alone. That is where the work of psychotherapy comes in to provide a path forward. By creating a space of acceptance, presence, and honesty together we can move towards building more security and freedom to live and enjoy life.

Autism Therapists

What is the most effective treatment for autism?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) has come to be considered the standard treatment for children with autism spectrum disorder, and research has confirmed its effectiveness for many children. Therapists trained in ABA techniques work with children (and their parents) on developing social skills, communication and learning abilities, and everyday habits of hygiene and grooming. The clinician will tailor their program to the child’s particular need but the overarching goal will be to help them advance as far as possible toward independence based on their level of symptoms and decrease the need for additional special services. Families should seek a mental health professional specifically trained in ABA, and holding special certification in the technique, who has extensive experience not only with the approach but in using it with children with the same level of symptoms as the child who needs care.

How does ABA work?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) sessions, which typically focus on positive reinforcement, can be intensive, lasting two or more hours several times a week, and continuing for two years or more. Therapists can also be expected to ask parents to take an active role in reinforcing lessons. Research has found that the technique can lead to major improvements that decrease the need for additional special services.

How does treatment for autism work?

Therapy sessions based on Applied Behavior Analysis will likely be frequent, intensive, and highly structured. After a thorough assessment, a therapist will help a child understand and develop skills in a range of areas, including communication, motor skills, social skills, self-care, play, and academic skills, as well as routines of daily living like hygiene. Typically, the therapist will help a child break down the components of a behavior—often referred to as the antecedent (what prompts an action), the behavior, and the consequence(what immediately follows)—and then reward the child at every step, while also asking parents to reinforce the lessons, and the rewards, throughout the day. This core therapy may be supplemented by occupational or speech therapy, and antidepressants, antipsychotics, and anticonvulsants may be prescribed to address specific severe symptoms.

How long does therapy for autism take?

Some people with autism spectrum disorder may be engaged in some level of therapy for many years, but research shows that treatment will be most effective if it is begun early and delivered intensively. When therapy begins by age 3, children tend to be better able to grasp and adopt the skills needed to manage everyday life, including attending school and establishing social relationships. This type of early-intervention treatment regimen is highly structured, typically involving 20 to 40 hours of one-on-one therapy per week, along with additional hours of engagement managed by parents, for a period of two years or more, although the duration of treatment is dependent on the child’s level of symptoms and pace of progress.
