Therapy does not make hard things easy, but it can make confusing things clearer. My hope is to work with my clients towards real change, greater flexibility, and honesty in the context of a compassionate relationship, all of which are necessary for healing and flourishing. I work with individuals who struggle with intense emotions, hard to control behaviors, OCD, addiction, trauma, abuse, and suicidal/self-harm behaviors. I also work with religious or spiritual concerns. I work with people who experience conflict within themselves, with other people in their lives, or with their personal and collective histories.

I approach our work together by inviting a trustworthy, professional collaboration to explore your relationship with yourself, with others, and with the stories that have shaped who you are today.
Therapy offers a unique opportunity to engage you and the stories that have shaped you – to explore with curiosity and kindness, to be seen and heard, to heal and grow. Clients express a growing desire for more beyond familiar experiences that leave them feeling stuck or exhausted. They find that the courage to honestly tend to current hopes and struggles, including their past, to be a significant and meaningful decision. Relationships are deeply impactful in our lives, contributing to our development as well as our wounding; it is relationship that also fosters a foundation for healing and change.

In my practice, I view the counseling relationship as a central healing element and indicator of change.
Are you ready to begin making significant changes in your life? A trained professional can help stand by and guide you; you're not alone. I typically treat depression, anxiety, trauma, stress, adjustment, and relationship issues, but I was educated to work with a broad spectrum of mental health issues. During my training, I received specialized clinical experiences for working with survivors of traumatic events, have felt marginalized by society or their family systems due to their identities, career issues, relationship problems (e.g., loneliness, insecurity, preoccupation, attachment, etc.), and issues with body image and eating.

I work with teens, adults, and families. I believe that counseling is, first and foremost, a relationship; positive change can only take place when the relationship is based upon honest and open communication, collaboration, and trust. With individuals, my goal is to help you build upon your existing coping skills, deepen your insight, and work with you to develop healthier approaches that will improve your ability to handle future stressors, challenges, and losses. With families, my goal is to help identify challenges and collaborate on an action plan for family success.

In working with couples or individuals focused on relationship issues, I help identify your patterns of interaction and the underlying feelings that drive those behaviors.
I am a licensed couples and family therapist and have worked in private practice and agency settings for more than 15 years. I provide therapeutic support to couples, families, individual adults, children, and adolescents out of my office in Seattle's Ballard neighborhood. Your comfort level with and relationship to your therapist is a primary factor in the success of your therapy, so after you've had a chance to review my information, I invite you to give me a call to see if we'd be a good fit.

Affirming of individuals in the LGBTQ+ communities and respectful of those with alternative relationship styles.
My clinical approach is largely psychodynamic with existential and humanistic elements. Some of my clinical interests include: adult developmental life transitions, the impact of chronic illness (on both the person with chronic illness and those caring for someone with chronic illness/ongoing health needs), and men's issues.

"Normal is nothing more than a setting on a dishwasher." -Whoopie Goldberg. Remembering that normal is a myth when it comes to being human helps ease the harsh self criticism that often interferes with exploring our inner worlds with kindness and curiosity. This is the posture I take as I work alongside adults and teens who want to deepen their relationship with themselves and thrive despite circumstances. They may find themselves struggling with relationships, ongoing emotional disturbance, feelings of depression and/or anxiety, trauma (past or present), and difficult life transitions among other concerns.

The therapeutic relationship, however clinical, has always been of the heart.
We reach out for help when something in our life gets our attention. It could be distressing feelings and thoughts, paralyzing indecision, stress, relationship challenges, trauma, illness, just to name a few. We can feel vulnerable, lost, alone. Oftentimes, the original issue which first got our attention takes us on an unexpected journey. We are given the opportunity to deepen into our relationship with ourselves and the divine in ways that heal and change us beyond anything we imagined. This reverberates into every aspect of our life bringing happiness, renewed vitality, a sense of belonging and feeling engaged in life, contentment and peace.

Our relationships reflect the best and worst parts of ourselves. You might be struggling to find a rewarding partnership, meaningful friendships, collaborative co-workers or efficacy as a parent. A strong therapeutic relationship can provide perspective and support as you navigate your personal and professional obstacles. In time, your life can be an integrated, balanced, sustainable system that grows stronger in the face of change and adversity. Every day provides opportunities to live the life you want.

Do you find yourself stuck in unpleasant conflict no matter what you do? You may be fed up with how you can't seem to get unstuck from unpleasant thoughts and feelings, wondering if your relationship is built to last, or even if you yourself might be broken. You might not even remember a time things didn’t feel this way. But one thing is for sure: you’re ready for some relief. You’re ready to find healing from these patterns you're stuck in. You’re ready to forge a new relationship with others and yourself. Most of all, you’re ready to be seen, felt, and heard by your loved ones and yourself.

Relationship Issues Therapists
While need for human connection appears to be innate, the ability to form healthy, loving relationships is learned. Some evidence suggests that the ability to form a stable relationship starts to form in infancy, in a child's earliest experiences with a caregiver who reliably meets the infant's needs for food, care, warmth, protection, stimulation, and social contact. Such relationships are not destiny, but they are theorized to establish deeply ingrained patterns of relating to others. The end of a relationship, however, is often a source of great psychological anguish.
