The first step in the therapy process is building a therapeutic relationship based on trust and compassion. I offer a down to earth approach that recognizes your struggles and your strengths. Growth occurs when we believe that we are truly accepted for who we are right now. When this happens, we are better equipped to see what we may want to hold onto and what we may want to shift. I will think creatively with you as this process unfolds and provide a safe place for you to think, feel and construct meaning of your experiences.

Whatever your reasons may be, my hope is to provide a safe space for transformation to occur. I work within the context of relationship, believing they are what shape us, harm us, and ultimately heal us. Therefore we will work together as we explore opportunities for you to step further into your own voice and longings, finding freedom from anxiety, stress, depression, and fear. Making the decision to enter therapy is admirable. I look forward to meeting you wherever you may be.

Apologies, practice is full! My practice foundation: each of us naturally moves toward thriving (adjusting to and overcoming all variety of obstacles we encounter in life). Sometimes, we face especially difficult circumstances that seem to delay this process. I focus on guiding and challenging people to identify what is contributing to their current difficulty and the personal and environmental resources available to effectively work through the situation. The therapeutic relationship is key, providing a supportive opportunity for individuals to get clear about change they want to work toward and begin the positive change process.

Working together we can help you with what gets you into trouble, being stuck, a loss, difficulties in a relationship, and achieving your goals. If you are a parent, we will work together to reestablish optimal development and family functioning. Therapy works in many ways. It helps us surrender unhelpful ways of protecting ourselves, learn how to be increasingly self-reflective, develop greater capacities to repair ourselves and our relationships, and augment resilience and happiness. I believe that the deepest understanding and change comes from knowing oneself better, becoming increasingly self-reflective, and experiencing oneself differently in the context of a relationship.

It takes courage to ask for help. Life seems to throw us one challenge after another and we can feel weighed down by the stress of daily living. Sometimes we can lose sight of what makes us feel special and valued. I am here to work with your individual needs. Feelings of anxiety, depression, anger, and loneliness can leave us feeling disconnected from others. If we do not take the time to understand where these feelings stem from and how they affect us, we cannot begin to heal and feel whole again. I value you as an individual and want to understand your unique experiences. I want to help you to feel safe and accepted at all times.

Are you finding your self at a place in life where things no longer fit or make sense? Perhaps there are big changes, loss, grief, confusion. Do you feel lost or alone, disconnected from yourself and the world? Are you able to tune into your body, your creativity, your spiritual connections in order to find resourcing? Life transitions and disruptions can be disorienting and frightening, throwing us off center, leaving us wondering what happened and who we are now.

A great moment in therapy happens when I see clients making progress. I believe that everyone can reach an optimum state of health. Therapy can be successful when we work together to understand and manage the healing process and work toward the same goal. My approach is strength-based. The relationship between patient and therapist is a collaborative effort. I employ an eclectic approach with a strong reliance on Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness-based CBT, Brief Solution-focused, Motivational Interviewing, Group Dynamics, and Telehealth in Clinical Practice. I have served clients in multiple program settings.

How many diets have you tried and quit? What if I told you that it wasn’t you failing the diet, but the diet failing YOU? Many of us grew up believing that thin equals healthy, and that sticking to rigid rules around eating and moving would lead to happiness and success. But in reality, sticking to food rules creates stronger and stronger cravings, feelings of powerlessness or guilt, and disconnection from the body’s signals of hunger, fullness, thirst, and more! Dieting can even lead to total loss of control, binge eating, and shame spirals. To heal a chaotic relationship with food, the first step is understand this cycle.

Struggling with how to make your relationship and sex satisfying? Our relationships and sex in them can be fulfilling and pleasurable. I see intimacy and sex as layered. I work to enhance strengths, improve communication via attachment work and redefine what works for you/the relationship. Each of us changes in different ways as we grow. With changes in our sexuality, relationship or identity, I also hold space for the grief that we each individually or together experience for what we expected sex would look like or how things used to be. I bring laughter, safety and nonjudgement to each of my clients in our work together.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
