If you are struggling with a relationship, familial issues, a difficult life transition, or just struggling to get through the day-to-day then it is a good time to ask for help.I believe that it is never too late to start counseling and that counseling is a unique experience for everyone. Some people might go to counseling weekly for years, some might go to sessions weekly for 6 months and then transition to biweekly, some might be going to counseling for the first time, and some might be looking for a new counselor. All these experiences are valid, and my goal is to help you figure out what works for you and what you want to achieve.

I work with people experiencing anxiety, depression, grief, conflict, or issues of identity, especially those in the queer and/or neurodiverse communities. My goal for clinical work together is to provide a safe space to build upon existing strengths, foster self-compassion and self-understanding, and be a true collaborator in the exploration of conscious or unconscious thoughts, behaviors, feelings and reactions that may be holding you back from feeling well. I hope to promote true change together through a supportive, accepting, caring, educational and encouraging therapeutic relationship.

I view therapy as an opportunity to recognize the strengths of each person, the uniqueness of each story, and to find ways to use those strengths to create change and growth. I enjoy having the chance to walk alongside people through all types of challenges and triumphs as a willing listener who can provide empathy, a non-judgmental view on current and past experiences, and support to work towards meeting goals.

The quality of our relationships has a big impact on the quality of our lives, and that can feel overwhelming. These human connections, between romantic partners, friends, family members, and coworkers, have the power to transform our lives. Sometimes, we need help to manage transitions, move through cycles of connection and disconnection or conduct pulse checks with one another. I want to meet you where you are at and help you discover where you want to go as you live through your relationships and life changes. Together, we will work to strengthen relational intelligence, communication, connection and your motivation to change.

We are in desperate need of spaces for people to heal and grow. As hard as we try to avoid it, pain and suffering creep into our lives and make us feel heavy, stuck, and hopeless. But that doesn’t mean it has to stay that way. You and I can create a space to heal and grow from the pain that you have been holding. In our time together, we will be able to start unpacking all that you have been going through and work together to understand a way towards more hope and freedom for you.

If you are here that means you are likely seeking support for something in your life that feels difficult, overwhelming, confusing, or painful. My work is to offer you a safe, kind, and accepting space to further explore your internal and external realities. Together we will be curious about your unique life experience, the impact of your experience, the struggles and conflicts you may be facing, and what you need to thrive. I believe therapy is the process of uncovering who you were meant to be before the world told you who you should be or wounded you with its expectations and cruelty.

My patients are usually hard working adults who have run into some tough times or are experiencing difficult emotional issues such as anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, and addictions. I focus on using a strengths-based and harm reduction approach, which views each person as an individual with unique strengths and challenges. Using this approach values the person and facilitates a customized treatment plan for the individual. My role is not to judge you or your behaviors, but to act as an independent consultant for improving your mental well-being and quality of life.

The therapist-client relationship is like nothing else in the world. As the client, you should feel unconditionally supported and safe when you’re working with me. I’m East coast-raised which has influenced me to take a very direct and honest approach to how I show up as a therapist. If you’re looking to be challenged, you found the right therapist! My style is all about drawing from Existentialism, which is based on the belief that we’re each responsible for creating purpose and meaning in our own lives. What is within your control and what is out of your hands? How can you learn to tolerate the uncertainty around you?

I think there is no greater pain in life than bearing an untold story or feeling like you have to go it alone and do your work completely by yourself. As your therapist, I view my role as a fellow travel companion and a guide to help you navigate the terrain of your life. I seek to create a safe space for you to explore your story, create detours where there are obstacles, and create a path to a better future. I enjoy working with folks who not only want to find relief from their problems, but also seek to shift the paradigm of how they see themselves in relation to others and the world.

My clients are often facing transitions that may leave them feeling alone or unlike themselves. By creating a nonjudgmental space where they can feel seen and understood, I help my clients discover what is most important to them so that they can find more ease in their lives. Therapeutic sessions will be tailored to clients' individual needs. I prioritize using a strengths-based approach, along with Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and similar modalities. In therapy, clients often learn that their current coping strategies, even those that are harmful, have served a purpose.

You're struggling with past traumas. Maybe you don't even realize that a lot of your frustration, anxiety and depression and current struggles are linked to past traumas. It can be overwhelming dealing with intense emotions and identify the why behind it to change your life. I would love to work with you and address some of the emotions and struggles that you have been dealing with. Have there been some past events in your life that have fundamentally changed you as a person?

We all seek increased meaning, along with deeper purpose and stronger connections. But change can be hard! When pain or fear predominate, we are unable to tolerate stress or to be spontaneous. Together, we will address self-limitations like shame, people-pleasing, or perfectionism. I look forward to working with individuals facing life transitions including grief and loss, divorce, marriage, career change, maintaining recovery, gender assignment exploration or those seeking deeper meaning.

I believe we humans all have inherent goodness, beauty, and resiliency to us. Unfortunately life leaves none of us unscathed whether it be from harmful systems, family of origin dynamics, life circumstances, toxic relationships, traumatic events, or even our own self sabotaging behaviors. Regardless of how it happens, we can find ourselves feeling stuck or in pieces. While there are many wonderful healing practices out there, I believe that therapy is a great way to start understanding how we got to where we are and to begin to grow in new directions, with the hope of living a more vibrant, grounded, and creative life.

There comes a time when we are forced to meet ourselves, hard as we might try to avoid it. It can happen for different reasons and during different life stages. Maybe you’re experiencing a big change that’s bringing everything up all at once, or perhaps you’re realizing the mask you’ve been wearing doesn’t quite fit right anymore. What you’ve always done is no longer working for you, and the new things you’ve tried so far aren't cutting it. And while you feel ready for change, the path forward feels messy, confusing, and overwhelming.

Whatever you are going through, you shouldn't have to go through it alone. Sometimes, we encounter barriers that can keep us from living the joyous life we deserve. Maybe those barriers include: depression, anxiety, or trauma reactions. Perhaps you need help on building your skills, strengths, resiliency, and emotional awareness to cope with the various challenges throughout life. Or, maybe you want the tools to align your life with your values and vision. Even though painful, difficult experiences are inevitable, that does not mean we can't live our best lives, or be our most authentic and fulfilled selves.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
