I particularly enjoy working with teens and adults who wish to explore issues relating to identity development, relationships, depression, anxiety, neurodivergence, grief, disability, multicultural issues, and crises of faith/spirituality.
PEAK Psychological Wellness is a group practice that provides culturally responsive individual therapy and psychological evaluation. As a Latina counselor, I wholeheartedly value identity, intersectionality, and autonomy as fundamental to the therapeutic process. I believe that therapy provides us with the opportunity to express ourselves to the fullest extent without fear of judgment or retaliation. My goal as a therapist is to create an affirming space for you to explore difficult feelings by harnessing your strengths and honoring your boundaries, all while providing and receiving constructive feedback along the way.

Depth psychology, the psychospiritual, Buddhist & Sufi philosophy, Persian Mysticism, Nonviolence, art, film, music, the ebb & flow of the ocean, the lush forest, and the many different cultures and colors of human spirit inspire me creatively, spirituality, and poetically.
We live in an overly stimulated world even while hiding from a virus, with constant choices regarding how we spend our time and energy and procure our needs. The amount of content we engage with daily has most people overloaded and unfocused. Which means, most of the time, we are not truly listened to or seen. For some, stepping into therapy is the first time they have experienced being heard and seen, wholly, genuinely, and comprehensively. The initial experience of being heard, can have a profound effect on one’s life. That is where we will begin. In a space with presence, non-judgmental empathic listening, and acceptance.

I hold a deep regard and compassion for each individual and the ways they have learned to survive. I view therapy as a collaborative journey towards integration of self and expansion of the potentials already inherent in you. In line with this, I aim for our work together to be as liberatory as possible. I see you as the expert of your own story and as holding the potential for your own healing. In our time together we can work to uncover what gets in the way of your inherent ability to flourish, be it internal, relational or rooted in the social environment in which we exist.

Mental health shouldn’t be a privilege. So much of how we feel in our minds and bodies has to do with the identities we inhabit in the world and how our environments do or do not support us. Counseling is a tool that can be helpful when dealing with the natural anxiety, depression, and grief that can arise as a result of living in a culture that refuses to see you or value you. I work with folks through an anti-oppression and somatic (body-based) lens. As a Non-Binary and Queer therapist, I am passionate about the decolonization of the therapy space. The personal is political.

My work is ideal for people who have a desire to understand themselves more fully, and who are interested in exploring stuck unconscious patterns that cause suffering to themselves and the people in their lives. I work with those experiencing anxiety and depression, grief and loss, relationship difficulties, life transitions, and issues around identity, including sexuality and gender issues. I also work with people who are grappling with existential issues of meaning and mortality. I focus on the cultivation of honest awareness and acceptance in the environment of an ongoing therapeutic relationship.

Do you get thrown off center easily? Are you noticing patterns in your life you’d like to change, or experiencing despair, shame, or anxiety about who you are and what your life looks and feels like? We are shaped by the world around us, influenced by our experiences and relationships with not only other people, but with animals, plants, places, and all of the nonhuman world. We all experience pain and weather grief and loss, sometimes in hidden or unacknowledged ways. Therapy can be used to bring conscious awareness to elements in our lives which impact or limit us.

As a clinical therapist, I help people who are struggling with feelings of anxiety, depression and loss. I teach my clients to practice what I call "the reverse golden rule": treat yourself as you would treat others! We are often so critical of ourselves, while with a friend we would be kind, supportive, compassionate. My 20+ years of experience have given me the tools to work using an eclectic approach that I tailor to each client. I offer a comfortable, safe environment where you can explore your thoughts and feelings, where you can feel heard, understood and validated.

I work with adults, children, teens, and couples who are seeking insight into their own processes and behaviors, with a desire to heal broken places. I am passionate about helping people connect to their inner strength, beauty, and goodness, which means I will have a bias toward kindness and self-compassion. It can be intimidating and overwhelming making the first steps toward wellness-I aim to be open and authentic right off the bat to help ease some of the anxiety. I am an artist who has spent many years working in restaurants, so I especially love working with artists and folks in the service industry as they pursue wellness.

I believe that healing begins with connection; to yourself, your story, and to meaningful relationships. Therapy is, at its heart, an honest, human relationship and that’s what I want to offer as a clinician. I approach therapy as an open exploration of your full self. This means that you get to safely bring your unedited, unrefined self into the room, including your gender identity, sexual orientation, race, relational structure, and every other element of your identity mosaic. I have special interest in the intersection of sexuality, trauma, and religion. Wherever it is, I am here to meet you where you’re at.

In therapy I connect with you in a deep way to empower you in your struggles. Most of us hope to connect with others in an intimate way and to have an impact on the world. I believe we internalize ways of relating in childhood and this informs the ways in which we relate with others in the present. The therapeutic relationship can be a safe place to see more clearly who we are in order that we might be freed to make different and conscious choices. This awareness can help you to know yourself more, to live an intentional life and have meaningful impact on the world.

People who work with me are often questioning whether their eating/body image issues are "bad" enough to get help. They struggle with wanting to know the right thing to do with food and exercise. They often feel guilty for caring so much about their weight and what they eat, but they don't know how to change their thoughts and behaviors. They are intrigued by the idea of eating intuitively, but are terrified of exploring it. They just want to feel comfortable in their own skin for once, and to not have to worry about food or weight.

I believe that when someone feels safe, growth can occur, and my goal in our sessions is to meet you where you’re at and help you achieve your goals. Although we may already have the skills to create change in our lives, we often need help identifying and developing those skills, and I would love to help you develop the tools necessary to build the life you want to live and overcome challenges that might make you feel stuck. I view the counseling process as an alliance and the clients as the experts of their lives. Within the structure of the therapeutic relationship I will help you access your inner strengths and promote change.

Spirituality Therapists

What should I expect from therapy that incorporates a focus on spirituality?

Spirituality can mean different things to different individuals, depending on their experiences, beliefs, and life histories. Some individuals focus on strengthening their belief system, while others experience spirituality in secular ways, such as through meditation, yoga, or by spending time in nature. Clients can expect a therapist to help guide and grow their spirituality through any of these techniques, encouraging the individual to cope with the challenges they face and develop strategies to build resilience and purpose to improve their outlook in life.

What are the most common treatments that include spirituality?

There are several treatments that incorporate spirituality. Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) helps a person examine and reframe their negative thoughts and behaviors. Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) focuses on emotional acceptance and psychological flexibility. Existential therapy is most often used to address anxiety, depression, grief, loneliness, apathy, despair, questions of identity, and feelings of purposelessness and existential dread. Transpersonal therapy focuses on a client’s spirituality and meaning in life and may incorporate techniques including meditation, visualization, hypnotherapy, dream analysis, and or breathwork.

Can therapy incorporating spirituality help atheistic or agnostic individuals?

Yes. For non-believers, spirituality can offer benefits including a greater sense of connection to others and to the natural world. An interest in spirituality may also spur individuals to pursue mindfulness practices, or to contemplate their purpose in life and how to achieve it.

How effective is spirituality as a therapeutic remedy?

Research suggests spirituality is generally beneficial for individuals. It is correlated with better health habits, such as less substance use, and an improved capacity to cope with stress and other mental health challenges. Increased spirituality can lead individuals to become more empathic and less materialistic, as well.
