Many people decide to come to counseling because they feel stuck. Often, this "stuckness" is based on a belief or value that has been imposed by someone else. Sometimes, we need help to break out of an unhelpful "mold." My goal is to build a unique relationship in your life where I can provide an unbiased, outsiders perspective on the situations and emotions you are dealing with. Life can be good, and life can also be really hard. How do you cope with the hard stuff? I seem to click really well with teens and young adults. I enjoy working with anyone one-on-one and will do my best to provide a safe and accepting environment.

Your mental health and the counseling process are personal and maintained by a steady, trusting, relationship.
Life does not happen in a linear fashion but rather we cycle through different experiences that change how we see ourselves, others, and the world. I work with clients who are struggling to overcome trauma or abuse, whether from specific events or more subtle every day micro-aggressions. I work with clients who are feeling overwhelmed or lost in their many life roles or experiencing distress relating to their cultural identity. Clients that I work with are open to bringing their whole selves (mind/body/spirit) into the space, embracing the natural human process to suffer and love, and hope to feel empowered in the change process.

It requires an authentic, safe space to work toward personal goals by breaking old patterns of acting and reacting in relationships, enhancing self-esteem, setting healthy relationship expectations, being in-charge of emotions—hard work that can lead to living well and more fully each day.
Why go to therapy? You might seek therapy when experiencing emotional pain or stress, even confusion about a situation or about yourself. Life challenges can pile up and seem overwhelming. Worry can interfere with relationships, work, and sleep. One goal of therapy is to relieve stress and every session should offer greater understanding of issues and relief in some way. Maybe you feel all alone with your concerns—it’s normal to feel that way. Therapy offers a place of understanding and acceptance, a place to be heard, and for you to feel safe with all of your feelings and thoughts, even those that you feel no one else has.

My primary specialization is in relationship issues, struggles with family of origin, and parenting struggles.
Life can bring pain and frustration into one's heart and mind. It creates sadness, anxiety, and a feeling of being stuck. It may feel hard to imagine that it is possible to see the light at the end of the tunnel. You may feel stuck personally or within your relationships. Therapy can offer clarity and strength as you work through, rather than avoid, that which causes you pain. Providing a safe space for someone to process is essential, and together we can traverse the inner journey of self-discovery. Exploring one's thoughts, feelings, and the unconscious can help illuminate what keeps one stuck in unhealthy patterns.

In psychotherapy much depends upon the rapport. You must feel comfortable with the therapist and hopeful about the therapy. When you feel this way, therapy is more likely to be helpful to you. I have been practicing clinical psychology since 1977. I focus on the interplay between our internal world and our relations with others. Not restricted to one approach, I integrate a range of useful change strategies including interpersonal and cognitive-behavioral. Psychotherapy is both an educational process and an interpersonal process. Each person’s experience is unique. I have special interest in eating disorders, relationship disturbances, depression, and stress.

As a provider coming from clinical work in community and institutional settings, I have had the privilege of working alongside a wide array of individuals. My approach has become a constellation of theoretical orientations. I believe wholeheartedly in the potential for growth via the therapeutic relationship, and most shiningly, the beauty of human resilience. Mental health symptoms and addictions are nothing but survival skills begging to be transmuted. Unaddressed trauma as been the focus of my work, and I lean on mindfulness and the power of its practice to retrain the brain’s most reactive pathways.

If you want to work on your relationship, but your partner doesn't want to do couples therapy, you've come to the right place. While many therapists will work with both of you as a pair, I'm a therapist who does individual relationship work with women. I'm here for you if you're wanting to repair your relationship, but find yourself doing that work alone without your partner's support. I don't want you to suffer and feel stuck just because your partner isn't ready to do therapy with you. You may wonder if talking about your relationship issues on your own without your partner will actually help and it absolutely can.

Hello and welcome! My approach to counseling is collaborative, meaning I want to build a relationship with you so that we can tackle your goals together. I will meet you where you are at in life! Counseling sometimes involves discussing unpleasant aspects of your life, and you could experience feelings of sadness, guilt, anger, frustration, loneliness, and helplessness. I cultivate a safe environment that allows for the space to talk about things that might otherwise feel uncomfortable and shameful without judgment. Your story is unique and so is your path to growth and healing, I would be honored to be a part of the journey!

Relationship Issues Therapists
While need for human connection appears to be innate, the ability to form healthy, loving relationships is learned. Some evidence suggests that the ability to form a stable relationship starts to form in infancy, in a child's earliest experiences with a caregiver who reliably meets the infant's needs for food, care, warmth, protection, stimulation, and social contact. Such relationships are not destiny, but they are theorized to establish deeply ingrained patterns of relating to others. The end of a relationship, however, is often a source of great psychological anguish.
