1 in 5 women will experience a clinical mood or anxiety disorder during and/or after pregnancy. Between 25-34% of women report their births as traumatic. Following the birth, some go on to develop Postpartum PTSD. The earlier there is support during this vulnerable and often overwhelming time, the adjustment to motherhood is less bumpy. I work with women (and their partners) to manage anxiety, depression, fear around motherhood and birth, postpartum PTSD and planning for postpartum support. I offer support during pregnancy and postpartum in a couple different ways. Traditional therapy, short-term home visits, or consulting.

“Shame can't survive being spoken: Shame needs secrecy, silence, and judgment to survive, but empathy can destroy it” (Brené Brown). Empathy and shame resilience are core to my practice. Perhaps you are thinking you don’t want to hide anymore; you are tired of feeling triggered; you feel hijacked by anxiety and depression. Clients can expect me to hold a safe but brave space where we explore these issues and unearth shame. From my own time in the client’s chair, I’m well acquainted with facing pain—and vulnerability hangovers. Not easy but worth it. I would be honored to sit with you and discover new possibilities found in healing.

Are you curious about how your past experiences have created the lens through which you see the world? We all are a cumulation of our past experiences and each individual is capable of dramatic and positive growth. You, the client, are the priority as each individual is the expert in their story. As your counselor, I am the copilot to what is important to you in each session. Together we can address issues of anxiety, trauma, stress, and conflict to grasp how they are currently present and where they stem from. I join you in exploring your story with respect, and unconditional positive regard, through a genuine, humanistic lens.

I am an integrative and culturally sensitive driven therapist who works with adults to unlearn systemic inequalities and process intergenerational trauma, grief, and anxiety, so you can confidently befriend your feelings, navigate life transitions, step into authenticity, and feel more at home in yourself. Often times when we are going through something difficult, it can be hard to see our way out. This may lead to spiraling thoughts, a lost sense of security and safety, thinking "I'm not good enough", consistently feeling on edge, and feeling disconnected from ourselves and others.

You dream of a life that feels peaceful and exciting, challenging yet manageable, connected and secure. You know where you want to be, you’re just not sure how to get there yet. You might say “I’m sorry” more than you’d like to, feel frustrated that caring for yourself is so much harder than caring for others, or worry that you'd be a burden if you shared what you're really feeling. Maybe it's been like this for a while. One thing is sure: you’re ready for relief. You’re ready for more ease, playfulness, and joy. You’re ready to feel more connected to your loved ones. Most of all, you’re ready to look to the future with hope.

Seeking therapy is a courageous step to take when life isn't turning out quite like you envisioned it would. I believe that this decision is one that should be met with unconditional positive regard, compassion, and non-judgmental understanding. I specialize in working with individuals seeking to manage anxiety, depression and other difficult emotions, have more successful and fulfilling relationships, and change harmful or unwanted patterns of behavior. I also work with individuals with significant trauma histories, experiencing grief and loss, or experiencing symptoms of severe mental illness.

While a desire to find meaningful connection with self and others appears universal, the everyday experiences of life often hold quite the opposite. Trauma, betrayal, loss, addiction, big life changes (and we can go on and on), can contribute to a variety of mental health concerns, and perpetuate dynamics that are not life-giving. Such dynamics are hard to put into words, so you are left looking for a safe space to tell your story and gain more insight into what shaped you, what motivates you, and what supports patterns of thinking and behavior that no longer serve you.

As a black therapist, one of my key areas of focus is the intersectionality of mental health and race. People of color often face unique stressors and systemic barriers that can make mental health challenges much more prevalent. The stigma associated with seeking therapy within many communities of color can make it even more difficult to reach out for help. Consequently, I am dedicated to destigmatizing mental health conversations within these communities and ensuring culturally competent care for my clients
