I specialize in working with men who are experiencing anxiety, depression, grief, identity, stress, & trauma.
Need some tools for your personal/relational toolbox? Every man, like every home, can benefit from a little attention and care. Sometimes we start to build a life that no longer fits our needs. Sometimes life crashes into the world we created. Other times, it is time that takes its toll. We might need a little tweaking and some elbow grease to do the trick. We might need to build a different life entirely. Whatever condition you find your life is in, you don't have to settle, give in, or give up. You can do this!!! I can help.

All families experience transitions, and even positive change can cause stress. I employ an eclectic approach with a strong emphasis on attachment, structural, and solution-focused family therapies. I work with young children and their caregivers to form secure attachments early on. This leads to more effective communication and problem solving patterns and a higher level of resilience down the road. My work tends to be short term and builds on the existing strengths of your family. My work with couples is attachment informed as we look at past and current relationships to elucidate our most fulfilling ways of connecting.

I provide a nonjudgemental space for clients to address anything you choose to bring to therapy. I work primarily with Narrative Therapy, which is a world view as much as it is a therapeutic approach. The Narrative approach puts your story at the center of the conversation. People in my practice are also seen through a multi-storied lens rather than a narrow singular story. I will have a friendly and laid back approach in our sessions. At the same time, I will also offer you direct feedback and honest observations. Mindfulness work, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Relational work are also important to me.

Feeling connected to who you are and those around you. Trusting yourself in the midst of hard decisions. Gaining purpose and prioritizing self-care. Creating and maintaining healthy relationships. All of this can feel impossible to accomplish when life is filled with uncertainty, change and exhaustion. Your confidence may feel lower. Your self-trust may feel inaccessible. You may be feel overwhelmed, confused and exhausted by the job of being a parent. Together we can co-create an environment that is conducive to sifting through these concerns while sustainably enacting change in these areas of your life.

I believe that each person's life is unique and precious no matter how the person perceives it. I believe in our innate healing power, resilience, and creativity. I work with teens and adults who are suffering from depression, anxiety, anger, and other emotional distress related to loss & grief, relational conflict, traumatic events, and life transitions. Together, we work to increase your awareness, expand your capacity to perceive realities and new perspectives, and to grow to be something larger than current self. I also work with intercultural couples who are seeking better communication for greater mutual understanding.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
