Are you depressed, anxious, and not sure where your life is going? Others have been there too, especially since Covid 19 changed pretty much everything. I have worked with a varied clientele to help cope with issues and find the right path for them. Working as a team, clients and I have worked through the issues that brought them to therapy and help set attainable goals. I have 18 years of experience serving youth and adults both as a mental health clinician and as a behaviorist. Therapeutic modes used include DBT, CBT, Behaviorism, Bowenian among others.

I've been trained in the Process Model of psychotherapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy ( DBT), and Gottman Method Couples Therapy Level 1.
Are you feeling stuck or overwhelmed? Do you long for a greater sense of well-being and/or fulfillment in life? When our needs are unmet or injured, it can result in distorted thinking and ineffective behaviors. We may feel unable to move past anxiety, depression, grief, fear, despair, anger, or trauma, and move into self-protection, isolation, or avoidance in order to cope. By creating a nurturing, nonjudgmental environment where it's safe to express feelings and emotions, I believe that we will identify root issues and move beyond coping to restoration. Contact me for a FREE 15-minute phone consultation!

I am an experienced Dialectical behavior Therapist ( DBT) and I work with adults and older teens with Depression, Personality Disorders, Asperger, ADHD.
Do you worry about your relationships with people? Your boss? Your spouse? your kids? Do you sometimes feel like your mood or your emotions cause you to say and do things you regret later? Maybe you are in what seems like an impossible parenting situation. Maybe you and your partner argue or struggle with emotions and parenting or what to say to each other to turn things around. Maybe you are just trying to figure out your identity or experiencing difficult work environments that seem unjust. Maybe you are neurodivergent or autistic and feel misunderstood, sad, or hopeless-maybe even a bit suicidal.

The clients I work with typically experience various types of anxiety, depression, substance use issues, or are simply struggling with difficult life transitions. I provide clients with the tools they need to help improve their lives and become the best version of themselves. The most important part of this process is to find the right therapist for you.

I have been using DBT, CBT, and Motivational Interviewing therapies to support the journeys of my clients in the past few years.
Hello! My name is Peter Kehoe, LMFT. I was licensed in 2002 and have had an eclectic and sometimes electric life experience to date. I believe in self determination and using support teams and individuals to create positive orientation. I started my journey in this field working with alcoholic adults in a group setting in the early '80s and later moved to a long term residential setting with adolescents with drug and alcohol issues. My internship was in an upper class community with the scions of these families that had substance use and behavioral disorders. Individual and family therapy were the mediums in those cases.

“Stress is not the enemy in our lives. Paradoxically, it is the key to growth”. Stress is inevitable. However, if we can learn how to deal with our feelings and stress, we may convert negative situations into opportunities to become better and stronger. As a therapist, I use EMDR and evidence-based therapy modalities ( DBT, CBT, solution-focused, etc) to help my clients manage the stress caused by relationship issues, trauma, disordered eating/body image, anxiety, life transitions, behavioral problems, career/school stress, anger, and more.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
