Finding a therapist can be difficult, especially finding a therapist who looks like you and can relate to struggles you face with. Being a young male in todayʻs society can be difficult and often times problems are over looked due to the stigma of ʻman upʻ. Being a parent and adjusting to the changes of a growing family, strain on a marriage, issues from childhood impacting parenting can be difficult to identify and reflect on. Being an athlete and finding space to process how issues outside of the sport could be impacting your performance can be outside of your comfort zone because personal or athletic lives tend to be seperate.

Things are really hard right now - it is more important than ever to have support. That looks different for everyone, but whether it's parenting, relationship, work, family - or all of the above, create some space and a plan to walk through it - together. It is a journey of insight, compassion, respect, honesty, integrity and courage.

People come to me because they are struggling and tired. They are struggling in their relationships with others and with themselves. Often, that includes self harm or suicidal thoughts. They might be told they tend to overreact, are dramatic, or "too much". Many are struggling with identity, how they see the world and how they see themselves in the world, often still dealing with painful wounds from childhood or versions of their younger selves. My clients want to feel more balanced and in control. People come to me because day to day tasks can be so distressing and overwhelming and they want to have a better quality of life.

I enjoy working with all kinds of people. Doing work on past trauma, depression or anxiety is hard work, and I respect and admire people who are willing to do it. Like physical health, mental health isn’t a one shot, once a week thing. I encourage clients to integrate self-care in ways that make sense to them. Life can be challenging. Things like anxiety and depression don't go away entirely. We change our relationship with them. We practice kindness with ourselves and others. When we feel depressed or anxious, we practice self-care. The work that I do will help you to learn compassion and understanding with yourself and others.

I like to think of myself as a mental health mentor. I am a psychologist with expertise in child development, women’s health, and parenting. I have been practicing for over a decade. I’m also a science nerd: I've spent many years dedicated to studying how mental health develops and how to promote mental wellness. Lastly, I am a person who has reflected on and gained wisdom from my own experiences with anxiety, stress, and challenging life experiences. Through this blend of professional insight and personal understanding, I see myself as a mentor bringing curiosity, collaboration, and expertise to the spaces I hold for my clients.

Therapy is a collaboration. I am present and relational in my work. I believe each person is innately their own expert and I am here to help that person tap into their own truths. I get to know you from a place of non-judgement. I listen to what symptoms are troubling you and will teach you skills to help relieve the suffering. Together we develop short term goals that build upon the strengths that you may have temporarily not been able to see. The long term goal is not to be in therapy forever, but for you to have the tools to thrive in your life!

Counseling and psychotherapy can be the most rewarding gifts we give to ourselves. A gift of self-care where hope, change, and personal transformation can become a reality. Depending on the situation and individual preferences, counseling can be brief and solution-focused or longer in length. For clients looking to change long-standing behavior patterns or negative perceptions, a long-term approach is the best therapeutic option to explore and unlock new growth that can lead to a more fulfilling and meaningful life.

In today’s world, we are surrounded by stressors at every level—personal, community, national and global. There’s no doubt that when there is so much chaos in the world and our lives it can feel like we are out of control. We may feel “stuck” perhaps with unbearable sadness, grief, overwhelm or worry that have ripple effects in our daily lives including work, school, family, and relationships. Talking to loved ones can be helpful, but sometimes we’d rather talk to someone who is impartial. Our work will focus on creating a space where you feel heard, understood, cared for, and accepted as you are.

Are you feeling stuck? Maybe you're not sure how to describe how you're feeling. Whether it's depression, anxiety, low motivation and self-esteem, relationship issues, or something else, we can work together to figure it out. I can help you find the spark to make the changes you desire, get you feeling like yourself again, or figure out who you truly are. Sometimes we face life transitions, whether welcome or unwelcome and expected or unexpected, and we find ourselves different at the other side. We can explore the feelings and thoughts behind this and help you grow with your new reality, whatever it is.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
