Often times the greatest barrier to our healing is feeling like we are alone and have to fix things ourselves. We were never meant to walk this life alone. This is why it is my commitment as a therapist to create a safe and nonjudgmental environment where you can receive hope in the healing process.

Therapy with me is one way to create changes through psychological, emotional, and soul-based healing. Healing is possible through sharing your stories and better understanding processes that are connected traumas, grief, or feelings of shame and guilt. My approach is collaborative and insight-oriented; encouraging deeper change and growth towards a brighter future, not a patch-up or superficial process.

Like the seasons, our feelings and perspectives transition. Perhaps you find yourself in a transitional season and are dissatisfied with life, relationships, or feeling disconnected from the things you find most meaningful. Left unaddressed, unhealthy habits may ensue along with harrowing stress that interferes with your daily life.

I understand the dynamics of toxic and narcissistic relationships, which is essential to breaking free from the chains you may feel while in these relationships. I can help you make sense of depression, anxiety, and negative thought patterns. I value working with survivors of narcissistic abuse, first responders, and law enforcement. I use a direct and active approach.

Sometimes, I ask questions to help you reach your answers, and, other times, I challenge you and frequently give assignments to help you further work through what’s bothering you. Things I have heard repeatedly from clients is that they appreciate my down-to-earth, empathetic yet sometimes humorous approach. Clients consistently say that they appreciate the way I listen and genuinely care. I’m kinda like a wise teacher, nurturer, wisecracking, and sarcastic all rolled into one. I have also been described as a motivational coach and encouraging cheerleader. Most importantly, I like to think of myself as a fellow traveler.

I am a psychodynamically trained psychologist. I also believe in using an integrated approach when helping someone to understand the how and why of what got them to this point in their life. I have found that an integrative approach to therapy works best. If a client has a non-Western approach to coping with life issues, that can be integrated into the treatment. I adapt my approach to what is best suited for you the client. It is my goal to build a therapeutic relationship with you by creating a safe and healing environment where you feel safe to explore your thoughts, feelings, and emotions.

When I was younger, I didn’t know how to communicate my feelings and felt frustrated by potential mischaracterization. After I had my first child, I had a difficult time navigating through postpartum depression. I started asking questions and researching mental health while finding virtual support groups. Through this process, I realized that I had s never been alone in my personal issues. When I was pregnant with my second child, I went back to school for social work to become a mental health professional to serve people in my community to help navigate through anxiety, depression, grief, and intergenerational traumas.

I am here to help you embody a way of being that you are nurtured by. Pain and loss are a part of life and my work gives you a space to share and process your story, make meaning in the face of suffering, and move towards healing and growth. We all get stuck, in overwhelming emotions, unwanted behaviors, and destructive patterns in relationships.

Want to be a power couple? I can show you how. In the past 10 years of my practice, I have seen many couples. I can’t say I’ve seen it all, but I have seen A LOT. Some fight explosively, triggered easily by a snide comment or an exaggerated exhale from their spouse. Others never fight but the distance between them is palpable minute they walk in the room and sit on opposite sides of my couch. However, one thing they all had in common is suffering due to a lack of connection and belonging. Humans are all wired for love and relationship, but unfortunately some never learn the skillsets necessary to be successful at partnership.

Therapy sessions can allow us the opportunity to gain a clearer idea of what could be contributing to your struggles. This increased awareness, shift in perspective, and utilization of coping skills and tools can assist you in having a more satisfying and meaningful life. Treatment gains occur when evidence-based skills and tools are learned and utilized. By working collaboratively in a therapeutic relationship, you can achieve healing.

I have been a licensed therapist since 1989. I've been trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy which is very helpful in treating depression and anxiety. Later on, I became interested in effective treatments for trauma and became a certified EMDR therapist in 2009. Since I also provide therapy in Spanish I have an understanding and sensitivity of the immigrant experience and the experience of children of immigrants. I believe my clients have innate strengths and wisdom and it's my pleasure and privilege to help them rediscover this.
