I specialize in working with adolescents and adults who have experienced significant trauma in their lives, particularly child sexual abuse, child maltreatment, and intimate partner violence.
I believe that we all experience our own unique traumas in life, and it's how we respond to them that shapes our view of the world and ourselves. I'm here to help you see things from a different lens, or perhaps just help you develop new ways of responding to your own individual experiences. Healing your traumas allows you to regain your sense of power and strengthen your sense of self. I take a holistic approach to healing and wellness and believe that each client requires a unique, person-centered approach.

Life’s journey includes many difficulties, including challenges for individuals, couples, and families. Therapy provides a confidential and safe space where feelings can be explored, new skills can be acquired, and healing can begin. Seeking guidance is an important first step. I have experience working with those involved in domestic violence, sexual abuse, and other trauma. Trauma often surfaces in ways as we do not always know how to articulate and process our emotions. I take a collaborative approach with my clients to reinforce safety, identify problem areas, set goals, and learn to identify and express their feelings.

My ideal client is seeking support in numerous situations that might include, anxiety, depression, anger management, OCD, interpersonal goals, or self exploration. They can either be goal oriented or super structured in therapy. As well as more flexible and open to see what comes up in sessions. Self-awareness is important to me as a therapist as this helps us as humans have a better understanding as to how experiences, emotions, and actions all connect and impact our daily lives. My ideal client would be open to learning these tools.

In life we all experience stressors, hardships, and sometimes trauma. These experiences shape our perception and the lens in which we see the world and ourselves. Using an integrative approach of cognitive-behavioral, rational emotive behavior, and dialectical-behavioral therapies, I assist my clients to become whole and healed by learning a new way of responding. In addition, using comprehensive psychological evaluations, I decipher difficult and-or multiple diagnoses, assess an individual's emotional and cognitive functioning, and innate abilities for a variety of purposes including forensic evaluations and expert testimony.

Domestic Abuse Therapists

What are the most effective ways to recover from domestic abuse?

Leaving an abusive relationship requires tremendous courage, so survivors in treatment should recognize that they have already completed the most important step. Still, the trauma of physical or emotional abuse can be difficult to process and overcome. Therapy can help survivors process trauma, grief, and difficult emotions, treat relevant mental health symptoms, and create a new framework for boundaries and relationships in the future. For some, support groups can also be an invaluable outlet for healing.

When should an individual seek help for domestic abuse?

Victims of intimate partner violence should seek help immediately. It can take substantial time, planning, energy, and courage to leave an abusive relationship, but starting the process—by seeking therapy, calling the domestic violence hotline, or simply confiding in a loved one—will help them get there. Those who have left abusive relationships but haven’t sought treatment can also greatly benefit from therapy to process and heal from the experience.

What are the consequences of staying in an abusive relationship?

Remaining in an abusive relationship has serious repercussions. In addition to the ongoing threat of physical danger and emotional abuse, research shows that intimate partner violence is associated with a range of mental health disorders including depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and substance abuse. Therefore it’s important for individuals in an abusive relationship to seek help as soon as possible.

How can you get domestic abuse treatment for someone else?

It can be very complicated to identify and leave an abusive relationship; barriers include the threat of violence, financial instability, and family pressures. Those concerned about a loved one in an abusive relationship should talk to them about the situation, provide them with resources such as the domestic violence hotline, and introduce the idea of seeing a therapist due to their concern for the person’s safety and well-being.
