It's a challenge to be in this world. You want to be considerate and kind; you also want to fulfill your potential. Were you were raised with a lot of "shoulds"? Were you told to control or ignore your feelings? Are there issues with anger- yours or anger from loved ones? Anger can lead to feelings of shame. But finding the feelings beneath the anger, you can accept and love yourself. And that can change your life. Here's an old, fun riddle about therapy: "How many therapists does it take to change a light bulb?" "One- but the lightbulb has to want to change." My ideal client may not know how to, but they want to change.

I specialize in honest communication, self-esteem, trust & intimacy issues, anger management, co-dependency, heartbreak & loss, defensiveness & vulnerability, and life transitions.
My belief is that unless we get to the heart of the matter of whatever is causing your grief, solutions will only go so far. My approach is holistic; helping you heal core insecurities that are causing you this grief. I use a combination of approaches including cognitive behavioral, psycho dynamic, inner child, and humanistic modalities to help you see how your past is impacting some of your difficulties today. By facilitating a process of becoming aware, I will help you relinquish unconscious beliefs that are holding you back and identify what you need to make change.

When someone significant in your life is acting out, it’s maddening. Is it them?..is it you? Are you weighed down with the effects of being raised by emotionally immature parents? Regardless, something has to shift. If you're in that space with your child, parent, or someone else; you know it can be a source of real suffering. There may be anger, depression, anxiety..it is stressful at the very least. Don't do this alone. Let's talk.

Some of the most common conditions I see include depression, anxiety, transgender issues, relationship problems, attachment issues, self-esteem, and anger problems.
My name is Dena Webster; I am a licensed clinical social worker. My goal in providing therapy is to make a difference for everyone one day at a time. I meet my clients where they are and consider their whole environment when identifying issues and resolving them. My approach to therapy is eclectic; I incorporate cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, motivational interviewing, and coping skills. I realized that having someone to talk to and a safe place to say the hard things was helpful. I also noticed I have always been that friend everyone talks to process their problems.

I have worked with individuals ages three to adults with a variety of presenting issues, including mood disorders, anger management, parental and family conflicts, anxiety, post-traumatic stress, as well as adjustment issues and phases of life issues.
I believe counseling offers healing, growth and clarification for individuals as they courageously decide to work with me in a safe, trusting warm and confidential environment. My therapeutic approach is mainly cognitive and behavioral (CBT) and Client/Centered Therapy but use other therapeutic approaches as needed. I strive to meet you where you are at, then we decide the style that fits your needs, as we are going to be working together to help you meet your goals. I believe in people’s inner strengths and capacity to succeed and grow even during difficult times.

I have been working with and supporting children, teens, and adults for twenty-five years. I enjoy helping others to conquer anxiety and depressive symptoms, to better understand their choices and behaviors. When we find our inner authentic self and begin to find the courage to share that truth, then we begin to balance our lives, and that is where we truly find our strength. I use a variety of models and interventions to help you work through your anxiety, depression, stage of life struggles, addictive behaviors, and desires to find your authentic and balanced self.

Anger Management Therapists

How long does therapy take for anger management?

Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?

Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?

Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
