I am a seasoned mental health professional with two state licenses, and over 45 years of experience as a psychologist. In addition to my independent practice, until my retirement in 2007, I was a tenured full professor at California State University, Northridge and the Clinical Training Director in the University Clinic, where I supervised and trained psychology interns and psychiatry residents for thirty years. My first sessions are half-priced, which provides an opportunity for new patients and me to meet, without undue financial concerns. I am currently practicing via telehealth only.

You're sitting in your car in the parking lot at work, trying to hold it together. A moment ago, you were in the office, going about your business, doing fine. Then the panic hit. A momentary flash of traumatic memory, and you're right back where you were. Your heart pounds furiously, perspiration pours from you, your throat constricts and chest tightens as you struggle to breathe. At least you were able to excuse yourself before anyone noticed your distress. So now you're sitting here, hiding in a parked car, wondering if this is just how your life will be from now on. Will I ever be free of my painful past? It feels hopeless.

I am often asked, "What kind of patients do you see in your practice?" "People just like you and me", I respond. The one thing that they all have in common is their desire to connect, to be heard, to express themselves without being concerned about saying too much or too little.

Fuck! Is this as good as it gets? I know the “happily ever after” thing is a bit of a fairy tale, but I never imagined that in marrying the person of my dreams I would one day be dreaming for someone/something more. Sex has become an obligation… a transaction to keep the peace. The desire for passion is imprisoned in my dreams and fantasies… it is not present in my relationship from either of us. We could keep going like this, raise our kids, take vacations once a year… I’m sure things will be fine! But is it bad to say…I want more than FINE! I want fucking Fantastic! This was a chat I had with a client during a recent consult call.

The decision to engage a therapist is deeply personal and may seem challenging. It is a unique relationship, where ideally, you can be in a safe, empathic environment and talk to someone with in depth psychological training and significant life experience. I offer both to my clients, treating individuals, couples, children, adolescents and families. These relationships have led me to focus on the treatment of: anxiety, depression, relational communications, work place stressors, substance use/abuse, attachment disorders, emotional regulation issues, self image, family systems, ADHD, grief and loss, parenting, obsessive/compulsive behaviors, impulse control, mood disorders and relational conflicts.

Is sharing your life with a stranger comfortable for you? It's not easy for anyone and yet from my own experience and from the testimony of others (clients/friends/family), therapy has proven to be a positive life-changing experience that I would want for you. I count it a privilege to be invited into your life and heart and I wouldn't take that lightly. My goals are to make therapy a "safe place" by welcoming you with empathy, validation, affirmation, assistance and tender care (the way we all want to be treated). Maybe you're suffering from trauma or loss or hurt or...please give me an opportunity to work with you to make your life a new and safe place. I also offer faith-based counseling.

Are you like me and have found when I seek to change anything in my life it is the most exciting, terrifying, rewarding, difficult and life altering experience? Deepak Chopra once said, “All great changes are preceded by chaos.” I have found this sentiment to be true in my personal life. Making the decision to change is a difficult choice, but I believe, the true path to healing and joy. In my career I have the pleasure of getting to know many different people from different walks of life and individuals in different phases. I have found the desire to better oneself to be the most amazing and rewarding work I could ever ask for.

After years of working on my own mindfulness practice, I've learned how incredibly helpful this approach can be in reducing anxiety, chronic pain, depression, and even insomnia. It is my intention to help you find more patience, peace of mind and gratitude to reduce your suffering. It is also my intention to help you find a level of harmony in all of your relationships, especially with yourself.

Although I work with children and adolescents individually, working with them alone is not sufficient. As a parent myself, I am very aware of what it is like for me to entrust my childrens' care into the hands of another. In order for treatment to be successful and for my clients to feel secure in the treatment process, I thus believe it is essential to incorporate working with parents into the treatment of the child. In addition to specializing in treating children and adolescents, I also offer services to college-aged individuals and older adults.

If you or someone you know, misuses alcohol or other drugs, don't wait and call for help today. With so many different options for treatment, it can be overwhelming and for some, it can even be paralyzing. If for whatever reason, I am unable to accommodate services, I will help you find the person or place that can.

As a clinical psychologist, I help individuals who are struggling with feelings of anxiety, depression, and loss. I teach my clients to practice what I call "the reverse golden rule": treat yourself as you would treat others! We are often so critical of ourselves, while with a friend we would be kind, supportive, compassionate. My 20+ years of experience have given me the tools to work using an eclectic approach that I tailor to each client. I offer a comfortable, safe environment where you can explore your thoughts and feelings, where you can feel heard, understood, and validated.

Every person sometimes struggles with difficult situations or feelings. I know seeking help can be scary. However, I truly believe that you can make positive changes in your life, and I would like to help. I strive to create a warm, supportive and collaborate environment, where clients can feel safe to work through difficult emotions, thoughts and experiences. As a cognitive behavioral therapist I believe that our thoughts influence our feelings and mood, which, in turn, influence our choices. I strive to give clients the tools and strategies to feel empowered to make positive and healthy changes in their life.

Finding and reaching out to the right psychologist can be one of the hardest parts of therapy. I have extensive experience treating anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), insomnia, and trauma. Anxiety and trauma affect all aspects of life, including work, school, sleep, personal relationships, physical health, and overall functioning. Many people feel isolated, alone, and helpless. I've seen therapy make a huge positive difference in people's lives - and it can be a truly wonderful, though challenging, experience. My practice primarily focuses on these issues among older adolescents, adults, and pregnant/postpartum mothers.
