The following therapeutic groups are offered: Depression and Anxiety recovery, Substance abuse, Grief and Loss, and Seeking Safety, CPP, Crisis Oriented Recovery services, victims of crime, trauma-focused therapy and more.
Accepting New Clients!!!! My name is Jacqueline Anthony, and I am a licensed marriage and family therapist in the state of California and Nevada. I began my career in counseling in the 1980’s when I served as a Correctional Counselor for the California Department of Corrections. While working for the Department of Corrections, I received many life lessons that inform my practice today. Though too numerous to mention, the most salient points include the resiliency of the human spirit, the resolve of a vision, and the truth that our true and lasting wealth is “this moment, this hour, this day.”

"The purpose of therapy is to remove blocks to truth; to help you abandon any patterns of belief that no longer serve you in a productive way; to implement self-forgiveness. Therapy can alleviate suffering and open the door to peace of mind. It can assist in separating illusion from reality and even reality from truth. Finally, it can help you to learn to make your decisions from internal prompts because you have created an internal locus of control." From "A Course in Miracles" Most clients start noticing change in their perspectives, outlook and coping skills early in the process.

“Imperfection is not our personal problem – it is a natural part of existing.” (Tara Brach). I understand that life can be challenging and has its “faults” but it's simply how we choose to manage it. We might often beat ourselves up for lack of follow-through, discipline, or motivation. As Tara Brach stated, we are humans, and being imperfect is a natural part of life. We might fail to realize that being human means making mistakes. While working closely together, I intend to create a space where you can be unapologetically yourself, and not worry about the “shoulds” in life.

Congratulations, you found a compassionate and affirming therapist. As you're reading this I understand it maybe with some degree of ambivalence. To that end, my immediate goal is to connect and reflect with you in ways that are safe, respectful and trusting. Only then can we have a meaningful, therapeutic-relationship that's open to collaboration, exploration, and revelation. This is where we "Make the road as we walk it", and I champion your journey, where ever it leads. I value the creative and growth potential of every human being. How can I best support you?

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
