Therapy can be weird. It can be uncomfortable to open up to a stranger about your thoughts, feelings, traumatic memories, and expose the aspects of you that are unhealthy. Therapy can also be a space where you allow yourself to be fully known, fully valued, and more clearly understood. My goal is to create an environment where you can more fully understand yourself, accept yourself, and allow yourself to grow in order to live an exciting and fulfilling life. I most often work with people who have experienced complex trauma, and struggle with addictive or out-of-control patterns as a result.

Being a psychotherapist and mental health coach was not my first career. I came to it later in life after having experienced how much a good therapeutic relationship changed my life. I was in my mid-thirties when I made the decision to pursue a doctorate in clinical psychology & I’m so grateful that I chose this path. In addition to the 20 plus years of training and practice I bring to my work, I also bring a wealth of my own life experiences. I have known many joys and triumphs in life, as well as many struggles and pains. I’ve experienced marriage and divorce and now live in a beautiful relationship with my husband of 18 years.

Do you feel like life is harder than usual right now? Are your relationships unfulfilling, are you extra critical of yourself? If you are struggling with depression, anxiety, insecurity, difficulty feeling joy, or continually seeking ways to avoid the pain; counseling may be right for you. You might be struggling with events in your past, your current life circumstances might feel impossible to overcome, or you have fears about the future. Imagine what it would be like to develop internal resilience, to feel joy again, to recognize the person you see in the mirror, to feel like you are in control of your life and decisions

Living with unprocessed trauma can feel like trying to keep a beachball under water. You can do it, but it requires a lot of your energy and if you let your attention slip, it will come exploding to the surface. But we do this because we feel we don’t know what we will do when we have to look the trauma in the face. We fear it will overwhelm us and we won’t be able to cope. But when the pain of your past traumatic event becomes too unbearable, you know that it’s time to do something about it.
