I am a member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT), AzAMFT, ICCEEFT and AZEFT.
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist at Therapy with Heart. I have a passion for empowering people to grow and make changes in their life. My style of therapy is unique because it focuses on working with you to find YOUR answers...whatever they may be. It takes courage to decide to enter therapy and until you feel safe and comfortable, it is challenging to create change. Therefore, I structure the session around mindfulness, emphasizing strengths, and collaborating together on the work.

As a Marriage and Family Therapist, I look through a systems lens.
I specialize in families/couples, and I am an Idaho licensed LMFT and Arizona licensed LAMFT. Often clients seek therapy because they have become stuck. Sometimes relationships begin great, but life/situations cause a change to happen. We all have personal challenges, have stressful periods, or go through traumatic times. The desire to seek help to explore and process these problems can open the door to positive growth. I believe in the healing power of relationships: no matter the wounds, if all parties are willing to heal, I will help.

My approach to counseling builds on existing strengths and situates you, the client, as the expert on your own life. I believe that relationships with self, others, and our broader communities are foundational to wellbeing, and encourage exploration of these areas through a trauma-informed, culturally attuned lens. I take a compassionate approach to existing dynamics and coping methods and work alongside you to bring patterns and the emotions that underlie them into conscious awareness. I am affirming of all people, including multicultural, neuroexpansive, LGBTQ+, and polyamorous people and relationships.

Hello, I'm Adelaide! I am a neurodivergent queer woman and I like to focus on the stories that we tell about ourselves and our relationships as well as the stories other people and institutions tell about us. Therapy with me looks like untangling the messy web of societal expectations that the world pushes on you, empowering you to be the author of your own story, and taking back control of your life and your identity in light of what makes you uniquely you. With couples, I also use emotionally focused therapy (EFT) techniques to create healing interactions between you and your partner right there in session.

Marriage Counseling Therapists
How does marriage counseling work?
Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.
How long does marriage counseling typically last?
Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.
Is marriage counseling effective?
Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.
Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?
Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
