I mostly use talk therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy because I believe those are two great methods to use with anxiety and depression.
Living with anxiety and depression can lead to feeling exhausted and joyless. I use several different methods to treat those symptoms in children aged 10 and up, teenagers, and adults. My goal is help people learn to work through what is causing the anxiety and depression so that they can enjoy life again. Other focuses of mine are women going through parenting challenges and life transitions and college students and their life transitions.

I love helping people gain access to tools through CBT to help them better manage their anxiety.
Helping people reach their goals while focusing on holistic wellness through mind, body, and spirit, is my passion. I believe people have the capacity for change, through willingness and dedication. Every person presents with different stories, and their unique situations offer me an opportunity to meet them where they are. Their situation may have specific challenges, but they should not be without hope!

My counseling philosophy is very person-centered, which I believe creates an open, non-judgmental space for my clients to feel safe. I value establishing a strong therapeutic alliance so you can feel seen and heard in ways that empower you to set and reach your therapeutic or life goals. I utilize a variety of counseling interventions including CBT, DBT, and therapeutic play, and I value humor and creativity! I also have experience with the LGBTQIA+ community and know firsthand some of the some of the challenges that come with being a part of that community.

My main approach is Internal Family Systems (IFS), and I also meet my clients where they’re at with relevant modalities including Relational Psychoanalysis, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), all depending on your scenario.
Throughout our lives we face many challenges, and sometimes we need more clarity and support than we find around us. This is where a trained clinical mental health provider can help bring specialized support to what you’re experiencing. Whether you are struggling with a bout of depression, living with ongoing anxiety, or have unprocessed trauma/abuse from childhood or last week, counseling can help you move from merely surviving to thriving.

I specialize in interventions such as CBT, mindfulness, grief work, attachment therapy, ACT and EFT.
Coping with depression, anxiety, burnout, life transitions, grief and relationship stress can be overwhelming. Unexpected life changes, challenging emotions and negative thoughts can feel draining and lonely. You are not alone. Therapy begins with a trusting connection between the client and therapist. A non-judgmental environment where you feel heard, understood and supported is important. You are not just another appointment on the schedule and I believe in connecting with clients on a deeper level. I look forward to helping you cope with past trauma, uncomfortable life changes, loss and any challenges that come your way.

While open to a range of issues, I feel I connect particularly well with adolescents or adults who have experienced trauma, different types of abuse, neglect, or exploitation, and are struggling with behavioral issues, substance use, self-harm, depression, anxiety, or PTSD. I want to help clients explore the parts of themself they try to hide away, address the pain they carry, and in working towards healing, gain back those pieces of who they are.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) Therapists

How does cognitive behavioral therapy work?

Cognitive behavioral therapy works by exploring how your thoughts affect your emotions and experiences. CBT helps you identify distortions in your thinking. For example, you may tend to jump to the worst case scenario catastrophizing or think in extremes (all-or-nothing thinking). A therapist can teach you how to push back against those thoughts to ultimately change your feelings and behavior for the better. They can also provide coping skills to better deal with stressors and challenges.

When do I know to seek treatment with cognitive behavioral therapy?

It’s reasonable to consider cognitive behavioral therapy if you struggle to manage difficult emotions or behaviors to such an extent that you are not getting the most out of life on a day-to-day basis. If you want a shorter term, concrete, skills-based approach, CBT is a great option. (By contrast, other types of therapy may devote more time to exploring your past and its effects.) The decision to seek CBT also depends on the condition you’re treating; CBT is an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and many other disorders.

How can I find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else?

To find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else, you may want to begin by discussing the person’s problem, researching cognitive behavioral therapy, and assessing whether the approach is the right fit. You could then reach out to a few cognitive behavioral therapists in this directory, explain the scenario, have a consultation with those available, and determine who could be a good match.

Why is CBT such a popular form of therapy?

CBT has become a popular form of therapy because it is effective and accessible. Robust research has demonstrated that CBT is an effective treatment for many mental health conditions. And CBT can be learned in relatively few sessions, which means that many people can engage in the process, afford it, and see results quickly. It involves learning concrete skills such as disputing unhelpful thoughts; these skills can also be taught and spread widely.
