My approach is relational and strengths-based combined with psychoeducation and mindfulness.
What do you value? What do you need right now in order to be able to pursue those values? Sometimes life experiences and stress can make it difficult to focus on what is most meaningful to us. For many, this can amplify feelings of anxiety, depression, and disconnection. You are not alone.

I draw from psychodynamic, somatic, gestalt, transpersonal, and relational modalities and tailor my approach based on your needs and desires.
Therapy is about developing a new kind of relationship with one's experience. Much of our pain, suffering, and struggle stem from resisting the experience, judging it, and denying it. My work is dedicated to helping you embrace the challenges and find meaning in them by helping you slow down, enter the experience, and discover your potent spark. We have our answers within and by looking inside, our suffering finds meaning and transformation, our vision finds clarity and awakening.

I support you as you navigate toward your ideal life and provide tools to overcome difficult life experiences, expectations and relational or cultural stressors. Our work will help you develop and maintain healthy relationships, develop positive coping strategies, shift thinking and behaviors, or come into a confident self. My approach is an integration of psychodynamic and cognitive-behavioral modalities, which means I will explore the way you experienced the world from birth until present in order to identify habits and behaviors that have become roadblocks to living in alignment with the person you want to be.

I specialize in working with the LGBTQ+ population, particularly transgender and gender-expansive individuals, and help people with issues related to identity, life transitions, depression, anxiety, mood instability, chronic relational problems, health issues, existential crises, and the impacts of discrimination.
The question I see on the face of almost every new client I meet is: Where do I even begin?! You likely have a complicated story to tell and need someone to help you untangle it, but WOW does that feel daunting. The foundation of my practice is relationally psychodynamic, which is a fancy way of saying I want to help you understand the patterns in your life, help bring to the surface unconscious motivations that have led to self-defeating behaviors, and help you understand how your relationships have affected how you experience trust, safety, and connection. I use humor and metaphor, and value building a strong therapeutic alliance.

I am certified in Terry Real's " Relational Life Therapy" model and also use EMDR and mindfulness techniques to assist in trauma recovery.
Come, Come Whoever you are. Ours it not a caravan of despair. (Rumi) Many of us are looking for greater meaning and purpose in our lives. Often we look outside ourselves for answers instead of inwards, towards our own resilient hearts. For 26 years I've worked with people seeking support and more fulfillment in their lives and relationships. Whatever challenges you are facing, you don't have to do it alone. This is your time to awaken and to become the person you were meant to be.

Relational Therapists

How does relational therapy work?

Relational therapy was developed by psychologist Jean Miller, whose ideas stressed that having strong connections with others encourages better health and well-being when compared with a lonely existence. Conversely, poor interpersonal relationships do not foster growth and learning. Relational therapy also encourages trust in others and patience with others, along with better communication and less conflict.

Is relational therapy evidence-based?

Relational therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating certain mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments like cognitive behavioral or acceptance and commitment therapy. However, relational therapy uses techniques found in cognitive behavioral therapy as well as psychodynamic therapy, which are both well-studied with empirical research.

How long are people typically in relational therapy?

Clients may see improvement after a few weeks or months of therapy. Like cognitive behavioral therapy, relational therapy can reduce symptoms within 10 to 20 weeks, at 45 to 50 minutes once a week. But like any type of therapy, improvement depends on the person and the severity of the problem.

Does relational therapy work?

While no therapy type will work for everyone, some evidence suggests that this therapy can be effective. Relational therapy can help a person manage problematic relationships as well as the mental health conditions that accompany difficult relationships like depression or anxiety. This therapy type may offer benefits that are hard to measure but can be just as valuable—including feelings of higher self-worth or healthier connections with others.
