We are happy that you are here, and we hope that we will get to walk alongside you for this portion of your life! While we cannot change the past, or sometimes the external stressors of our present lives, we can impact our trajectory going forward. And here at KCAPS, we believe in supporting people to do just that. Together we may move between past, present, and future... healing, recovering, processing, liberating, exploring, problem-solving, building, empowering, etc depending on your goals and your needs.

I am a caring and compassionate mental health clinician that offers a variety of services for those in need. I specialize in working with adults, couples and adolescents, although I do have a lot of experience working with children as well. My approach is one of information gathering to get a true understanding of the problem and then one of collaboration with the client in order to determine the best treatment or treatment options moving forward. Mental Health issues can be complicated and I am dedicated to finding what is making things so difficult and offering good ways to solve the problems.

I have provided counseling services in Denver since completing graduate school in 1999. I worked in both pediatric and adult medical settings, including hematology/oncology, emergency trauma and hospice. For 8 years, I worked at a school and community based medical clinic providing psychotherapy to all ages. I have also enjoyed private practice over the years. In each setting I work, including private practice, my therapeutic modality varies, but I always come from a strengths based/empowerment approach. I love somatic (mind/body) based work, as I am also a yoga teacher.

Having a safe, nonjudgmental space, to be yourself, and to reflect, discuss, and learn about your reactions, decisions, and challenges can lead to improved well-being. My psychotherapy practice creates that space in a hopeful, compassionate atmosphere. Psychotherapy is a collaborative process. Between your counseling sessions, you are encouraged to reflect and put new skills and insights into practice. I can weave traditional psychotherapy with mindfulness practices to relieve symptoms, promote self-care, make intentional decisions, and grow. Please email me and I'll be able to answer more quickly.

You may have learned that sweeping challenges under the rug was a reasonable way of dealing with uncomfortable feelings, like sadness, loneliness, and shame. And yet, while you may feel better at first, you couldn’t help but notice that the same feelings emerge again and again. If you are in a committed relationship, you may feel exhausted noticing that the same conflicts recur with your partner(s), leading to frustration or apathy. These issues can cause you to have a difficult time trusting yourself and your intuition, leave you feeling disconnected, and make you question how to move forward to create a life with more purpose.

Society constantly tells queer and neurodivergent folks they are the problem, when the truth is that crafting identity and authenticity for ourselves can be the greatest source of joy and strength. For so many of us it is a major accomplishment simply to be surviving, but you deserve to be thriving.

Asking for help is one of the scariest, and therefore most courageous things you can do. Together, we will explore all the elements of who you are and discover your inner strength, wisdom, and clarity. I am a relationship driven therapist who uses a blend of modalities including AEDP, mindfulness, IFS, and narrative therapy. Whether your goals are to improve your relationship with yourself and others, live a life that is more full of meaning and joy, or to heal from grief and loss, I create an authentic space to support and challenge you in this process.

Nothing in life has to be in vain- whether through opportunities for healing and growth, insights, and strengths development, the trials and tribulations that come against us can be transformed from weighing us down into stepping stones for moving forward through healing. Counseling offers a unique type of human interaction- unlike speaking with friends and family, the session is solely focused on you and helping you reach your goals in life. I offer a collaborative approach in treating you as the expert on yourself and your world while I use my expertise and training to assist you in reaching your goals.

Are you seeking to improve your relationships, to enhance your self-esteem, or to to heal from past trauma? If so, I may be the right therapist for you. My strength as a therapist lies in working with clients who struggle to understand why they continue to repeat the same problematic patterns in relationships, why they suffer from low self-esteem, and how to heal from traumatic events. If you are interested in working collaboratively with an experienced therapist to create the change you wish to see in your life, then I may be a good fit for you.

Relational Therapists

How does relational therapy work?

Relational therapy was developed by psychologist Jean Miller, whose ideas stressed that having strong connections with others encourages better health and well-being when compared with a lonely existence. Conversely, poor interpersonal relationships do not foster growth and learning. Relational therapy also encourages trust in others and patience with others, along with better communication and less conflict.

Is relational therapy evidence-based?

Relational therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating certain mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments like cognitive behavioral or acceptance and commitment therapy. However, relational therapy uses techniques found in cognitive behavioral therapy as well as psychodynamic therapy, which are both well-studied with empirical research.

How long are people typically in relational therapy?

Clients may see improvement after a few weeks or months of therapy. Like cognitive behavioral therapy, relational therapy can reduce symptoms within 10 to 20 weeks, at 45 to 50 minutes once a week. But like any type of therapy, improvement depends on the person and the severity of the problem.

Does relational therapy work?

While no therapy type will work for everyone, some evidence suggests that this therapy can be effective. Relational therapy can help a person manage problematic relationships as well as the mental health conditions that accompany difficult relationships like depression or anxiety. This therapy type may offer benefits that are hard to measure but can be just as valuable—including feelings of higher self-worth or healthier connections with others.
