I am a relational therapist who supports my clients in their pursuit of healing and integration. I use an attachment-based, trauma-informed approach to all therapy. My clients may feel overwhelmed, stuck, and confused as they go through challenging transitions, relationship difficulties, or begin to face past trauma. I often support couples in deepening their intimacy (emotional and physical) and rebuilding a meaningful sense of connection. I work with all clients to gain more understanding and compassion as we explore the unique challenges they face, past or present.

I work from a systemic, relational point of view with all my clients so all of my work includes considerations of the clients' families of origin, life experiences, and current relational systems.
If you're feeling stuck in your life or relationships, change is possible. Sometimes, even though there is much love in a relationship, people can't connect. Distance and resentment can grow, making loving and healthy communication impossible. Families can have similar dynamics, people don't feel heard, understood, or valued. These most important connections can break down and the family doesn't function in a way that works for everyone. These issues can intesify in the face of trauma, divorce, or the diagnosis of special needs in children. In these intense times people need support so they can grow, individually and together.

I primarily come from an attachment-based, relational approach where what matters most is being two humans together.
Hi! My name is Lindsey. I am so glad you are here. A story well told is my favorite piece of the human experience. We all have stories, and at a certain point it is up to us to pick up the pen and decide what our story is and where it's going. Life is both what happens to us that is outside of our control, as well as how we respond to it that is within our control. As your therapist, my hope is to empower you to become the author of your story and provide you with the support, guidance, and resources you need to be able to do so.

As relational beings, the experience of feeling connected to our authentic self and that of others is essential to wellness. Investigating the multi-layered stories that are told about us, which often inform how we view ourselves, is critical to finding alternative ways of stepping into the power of our truths. Exploring, and interrogating, the messages that are intimately tied to culture, ancestry, and community can offer wisdom necessary in addressing problems in living folks experience. Whether seeking individual, relational, or family therapy, I believe the healing journey is inherently a collective one.

At iAmClinic, our primary goal is to help the LGBTQ+ community and beyond establish internal solidarity, rooted identities, and long-term relational health. Each member of the iAmClinic team has experienced their own growth and healing, which fosters the excitement to offer the same life-changing process to those in our community. We created a safe place where people can share their stories, their pain, and their confusion, and what we’ve discovered most is that we created a place where people watch their lives change – a place where celebration happens and joy blossoms.

I believe that one of the best things about being human is that we are relational beings; we heal and grow in community with one another.
My clients often find themselves in periods of transitions, feeling misunderstood, and navigating challenges with how they relate to themselves and others. You may be struggling with symptoms of anxiety, depression, and pressure from societal “shoulds”. Perhaps you are hoping to heal from trauma but unsure of where to begin. My individual and relational clients may also be seeking non-pathologizing support in navigating ethical non-monogamy/polyamory at any stage. Navigating the challenges of life can feel hard, scary, and at times, isolating. I am here to support you in that journey.

I have experience in early childhood relational assessments, diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, learning disorders, behavioral needs, adult learning batteries, and school testing.
Being a child, a parent, an adult, and person in relationship can be hard. I work with individuals from infants (and their caregivers) to adults to help with these important and challenging life stages. Oftentimes we do not realize we have patterns of behavior that at one time protected us, yet now can cause harm. Through our work together, you will gain greater insight and understanding of these unhelpful cycles and your own life experiences, so you can create meaningful change in your life. I also work with young adults working through life transitions, career changes, and making sense of their childhood as well as couples.

As an individual and relational therapist with special interest in men's issues, addiction/substance use, neurodivergence and mood disorders, I'm here to help you uncover the obstacles that are blocking you from living the life you desire.
There’s no denying it; we exist in relationship. Relationships are critical to our survival and well-being, yet, at times, they can be so hard! Whether single or in a relationship, the “how” of building and maintaining meaningful connection is often what keeps us up at night. The good news? You don’t need to navigate it all alone.

As a gay/queer cis-gendered, male therapist, my goal is to create camaraderie for clients to process layers of trauma to topics such as heteronormative standards, societal pressures, gender dysphoria, relational dynamics, or religious oppression.
Many of us experience intense emotions without a rule book on how to let it move through us. At a young age, we subconsciously take on stories that stick with us and they can often manifest the way we relate to others, our internal world, and the world around us. Whether it is a story that we internalize of being too much or not enough, I want therapy to be a safe container to explore the stories that may be creating shame or holding us back from our highest potential in life. I believe that therapy can be a space to build the internal tools to be able to better communicate and express emotions.

In working extensively with severe problems of addiction, suicidality, uncontrollable mood and anxiety symptoms, relational rupture and self-destruction, I can assure you there is always hope.
I offer a range of specialty services that generally fall outside the typical categories and tend to use a “whole person” approach to treatment and stabilization, though over the last 10+ years of intensive couple’s and individual work I’ve treated almost everything and welcome all issues large or small, no matter the complexity. I offer Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy as well as Spiritual Emergence Coaching and meditation training for issues where mental health and spirituality meet. Lastly, I offer specialty testing to precisely identify problems and diagnoses, then use these to best determine what treatment will be most helpful.

I take a very relational approach to therapy.
From an outsider's perspective, you have it all together. But internally, you're exhausted, yet somehow feel like you're never doing enough. Sitting with your own thoughts and feelings is so overwhelming, that you’d rather distract with work, hobbies or relationships. Sometimes even knowing what you feel and need is complicated, because you are so used to putting the needs of others before your own. If these feel familiar, I'm with you, and I'd love to be a support for you. Let’s quiet that inner critic and make space for a voice with a bit more kindness, gentleness and confidence.

I practice through an emotional focused, person-centered, and relational lens.
My goal is to improve relationships, sex, intimacy, sexuality and gender identity to enhance quality of life. I strive to create a safe and accepting space to explore and discover an authentic lifestyle within these aspects of life. Through a sex positive approach, the goal is to reduce shame and enhance authenticity. Beginning with the exploration with relationship to self, my clients are able to enhance their relationships with others. Challenging the messages, beliefs and values family and societal has created allows for clients to learn and create their own narrative for the life that aligns with them.

Relational Therapists

How does relational therapy work?

Relational therapy was developed by psychologist Jean Miller, whose ideas stressed that having strong connections with others encourages better health and well-being when compared with a lonely existence. Conversely, poor interpersonal relationships do not foster growth and learning. Relational therapy also encourages trust in others and patience with others, along with better communication and less conflict.

Is relational therapy evidence-based?

Relational therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating certain mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments like cognitive behavioral or acceptance and commitment therapy. However, relational therapy uses techniques found in cognitive behavioral therapy as well as psychodynamic therapy, which are both well-studied with empirical research.

How long are people typically in relational therapy?

Clients may see improvement after a few weeks or months of therapy. Like cognitive behavioral therapy, relational therapy can reduce symptoms within 10 to 20 weeks, at 45 to 50 minutes once a week. But like any type of therapy, improvement depends on the person and the severity of the problem.

Does relational therapy work?

While no therapy type will work for everyone, some evidence suggests that this therapy can be effective. Relational therapy can help a person manage problematic relationships as well as the mental health conditions that accompany difficult relationships like depression or anxiety. This therapy type may offer benefits that are hard to measure but can be just as valuable—including feelings of higher self-worth or healthier connections with others.
