I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and Certified Clinical Trauma Specialist with a passion for aiding highly motivated clients get control of their bodies and their lives after experiencing traumatic events. I work with a small number of clients so that I can give each of them the very best of my extensive experience and knowledge so that they see change quickly. I am likely the most laid-back and non-judgmental professional you will encounter. I love a good joke and a sarcastic comment and will make lots of references to nerdy things like Star Wars and comic books.

I am Dr. Shyra Jones and have been fully licensed in the state of Texas since 2011. My license number is 66025. I have worked with individuals between the ages of 5 to 80 and inn a variety of settings. I like to work to develop a treatment plan that may include techniques to manage negative self-talk, limit habits that no longer work, identify strengths, and help process trauma in order to put it appropriately behind my clients. This may do through the use of expressive arts, getting in touch with the body, and “talk therapy.”

Throughout my career as a Licensed Professional Counselor, I have witnessed the resilience of the human spirit and the potential for growth, even in the face of adversity. I believe in a client-centered approach to therapy. I am an ardent ally of the LGBTQIA+ community and have a passionate affinity for working with transgender youth.

My practice centers around providing clients with the skills that they need to thrive in the face of stressful situations. Prior to entering private practice, I worked as a clinical psychologist on the spinal cord injury unit at TIRR. These individuals would have never otherwise sought mental health care but were faced with one of the most stressful and challenging experiences of their lives. My role was to help these individuals to effectively cope with serious, adverse medical events and to live happy, fulfilling lives. Likewise, in my private practice, I strive to help clients successfully navigate complex situations.
