Hey! My name is Annie and I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate supervised by Lisa Grubbs, Ph.D., LPC-S. In my practice, I encourage collaborative and meaningful connections with each client. I am dedicated to empowering clients in their journey toward authenticity, self-discovery, and self-acceptance. I specialize in working with teens, adults, and the LGBTQIA+ community. As a queer therapist, I understand the importance in creating a safe and affirming space for clients to explore their identities. Grounded in empathy, encouragement, and acceptance, my therapeutic style is all about navigating life's challenges together.

I am passionate about working with clients and feel honored to support you throughout your growth. My goal is to create an environment that is accepting, supportive and understanding. I strive to create a safe and nurturing atmosphere in which individuals can be supported in their efforts to grow as well as become reconnected to their strengths and dreams.

I am a mixed race (black and white) clinician and feel this gives me a unique perspective to mental health. Life can be mentally, emotionally, and physically exhausting. Trauma (racial, religious, or anywhere in between), work stress, marital strife, parenting woes and the like can at times feel magnified and the weight feels heavy, but I see you. Life is full of ups and downs and mental health can keep us feeling great or wanting to crawl into a dark hole. Sometimes we need to vent and have someone quietly listen, feel seen and validated, get practical advice or be taught practical ways to manage our emotions in real time.

My specialty is in compassion fatigue and burnout. I work with a wide variety of clients who are trying to manage stressful jobs including other practitioners, first responders, medical staff, teachers, caregivers, parents of children with special needs, adoptive parents and many more. Compassion Fatigue affects a wide variety of people in a wide variety of jobs and roles in life. If you find you are struggling with the stress of your paid/volunteer job or your role as caretaker, I'm here to help you.

With compassion and professional guidance, I will empower you with the ability to remove barriers that block your inner strength and power. I believe in a strengths-based approach that is holistic, eclectic, and guided by your individual needs. Each session you will encounter kindness, a supportive and peaceful environment designed to promote well-being and healing.

Sometimes life can feel really harsh when we least expect it. Thoughts and memories from your past may be intruding into your current life. Controlling your anxiety now seems impossible. You may be questioning your relationship with alcohol or other substances. In therapy, you will learn to stop the panic, stop the racing thoughts, feel less sad, and process the parts of your past that continue to affect you today. We work collaboratively with individuals, drawing on techniques, like EMDR, to assist you in moving beyond the symptoms of your struggles to uncover the underlying causes of “stuckness” or suffering.

I believe that each person seeking counseling has come to a point in life where the desire to change, heal, and grow outweighs the comfort & familiarity of staying the same. Each day, truth or lies are ruling our mind, will, & emotions. It shows up in the way we feel about ourselves, others, & the world around us.
