"Be caring, curious, and then compassionate." I practice these three steps just as I teach them. I studied psychology, counseling, and family therapy for 12 years to become the best therapist I could be and to know how best to help someone work through depression or anxiety. I especially enjoy working with couples to help create their healthiest relationship. My speciality is working with parents and their children even if they are grown.

My curiosity of the human mind and behavior led me to develop empathy, compassion, and a deep commitment for serving young children, teenagers and their families, guiding them through difficult experiences and problem-solving together as a team. While a former educator, I quickly realized that my heart was less focused on academic growth and more passionately focused on ensuring the social, emotional, and behavioral well-being of my students. Working from an Adlerian framework, I find great joy in the ability to support a child within the realm of their environment to best understand their unique self.

I work with individual adults, couples, families, and children (ages 3 - 10) and together we curate helpful ways to cope with everyday life and relationships. I encourage clients to focus on their inner strengths and make choices that bring them closer to their goals. I believe our thoughts, behaviors, values, and beliefs begin in our early years within our families of origin. These years, along with the life experiences and challenges we encounter along the way serve to shape us. Uncovering how these thoughts and behaviors impact our daily life is an important step toward healing, change, and freedom.

Now accepting NEW clients! There's a reason they say "It takes a village to raise a child." Let's be honest, raising little humans is one of life's biggest challenges. I proudly serve children (3-13 yrs old) who may be struggling with big emotions & behaviors, developmental transitions, or child/adult mental health issues. Using a playful, client-centered & attachment-based approach, I can begin to understand & communicate with your child. I can actively support & guide them as s/he/they make sense of their feelings and behaviors.

Insight. Balance. Growth. These 3 elements are what I have found people are seeking when forming a working relationship with a professional psychologist. A balanced therapeutic perspective, someone who listens with insight, and a plan created WITH the client for sustained personal and/or professional growth - this is what I offer in my work with clients. It's an approach that has been successful with clients for over 3 decades. My clients describe me as warm, genuine, caring, and the process of change as enjoyable even though at times life circumstances can be difficult.

Parent-Child Interaction (PCIT) Therapists

Does parent-child interaction therapy (PCIT) work?

PCIT is an evidence-based treatment that has been shown to be effective across domains, including for children with behavioral problems, those on the autism spectrum, and those who have experienced early childhood trauma. Further, studies have found that the skills developed through PCIT benefit not only the child in therapy but also siblings, as the parent internalizes lessons learned in sessions and is able to incorporate them into interactions with other family members.

How long does PCIT last?

The duration of treatment depends on the specific challenges clients face. Sessions are typically 60 to 90 minutes long, and treatment lasts, on average, between 12 and 20 sessions. Factors that influence treatment duration include how regularly a client attends treatment, how much progress is achieved between sessions, the particular skills that need development, and the extent to which the parent and therapist see improvement.

Can PCIT be done online?

PCIT is among the therapy types best suited for video sessions. Therapists are able to communicate with parents with essentially the same ease, and by observing the parent and child at home in their normal environment, the therapist may gain additional insight into their interactions, as the child will have their normal toys and may feel more comfortable and act more naturally than they would in a therapist’s room.

Does PCIT help parents?

In addition to the skills parents develop through the treatment, PCIT has also been shown to reduce frustration, stress, and depression in parents and promote confidence and a sense of calm when dealing with their children. The desired outcomes of PCIT include a reduction in defiant and aggressive behavior by children and an improvement in communicating their feelings productively, complying with parental instruction, and behaving according to parents’ rules. Growth in these areas can be a relief for parents.
