I can help with relationships, coming out issues, family problems, addictions, depression, bipolar disorder, career changes, trauma and parenting concerns.
After 15+ years of practice and training other therapists, I have learned working with someone who “gets” you can be nurturing and healing. I believe this happens when the therapist brings their personal authenticity to your session, and research tells us this is one of the most critical elements in therapy. Listening deeply, asking the right questions, and providing honest and helpful feedback tailored to your personality are the other skills that complete the picture. It is my passion to help people to change painful patterns, to heal, to become whole, and to find their life’s joy and fulfillment.

Welcome and thank you for considering me as your therapist. I think life brings difficult situations to all of us and many times we are overwhelmed with the emotional discomfort or mental confusion when attempting to address those issues. I have many years of experience working with people who have experienced a variety of emotional difficulties, relationship conflicts, and childhood trauma. In addition, I have assisted clients in preparing to participate in court regarding custody issues as well as addressing recommendations made by the court for parenting skills, anger management, and conflict resolution strategies. This is always the hard part, finding a counselor that feels right for you, and the initial discomfort in meeting them for the first time. I will endeavor to make this part as seamless as possible while striving to see the world through your eyes. We often have the idea that if we don't solve our problems alone we have somehow failed. I believe that we can thrive when we are able to discuss our problems with someone we trust. My hope is that I can provide a space where you feel comfortable discussing your concerns. You've come this far, all that's left is to take those first few, difficult steps.

I work with middle aged men and women that have experienced childhood trauma and are currently self-destructing with unwanted behaviors or emotional outbursts. You're looking for someone to help you make sense of life right now, you're looking for someone to help you reconnect to yourself and others, and you know that life can't keep going on the same. You're goal for counseling? Get life to be closer to what it's supposed to be like. You have an idea that this isn't it right now, but there is more and you want more.

I have a variety of experience in different mental health settings ranging from inpatient, residential, in-home family therapy, judicial, intensive outpatient, and outpatient treatment. My goal is to help individuals identify the discrepancies between their values and behaviors. When one’s values and behaviors align, a great deal of joy and peace will inevitably follow. For example, if someone values family but they are neglecting their family in any way, they will experience a great deal of anxiety and distress because their behaviors are not in line with their values. I enjoy working with pre-adolescents, adolescents, young adults, adults, couples, families, and athletes.

When people are ready to go to therapy, generally, they understand that something in their life isn't working in the way that they might want. They don't want to continue feeling or doing the same things. Throughout the sessions, they might discover different aspects of themselves, build new habits, and reach the therapeutic goals that we set together. When therapy is over, life continues to be hard, and things continue to happen, but you now have a different perspective, a bag of coping tools, and the knowledge that you can always reach out. You know that you are not alone.

Maybe you feel like the black sheep of the family, or maybe you're overwhelmed by parental pressure as an adult. Perhaps you’re feeling drained and exhausted by your current friendships. Maybe you're engaged, excited about the wedding and, of course, the honeymoon…but you also may realize there are so many things your parents didn't tell you about marriage. You want a place to talk about budgeting, future children, intimacy, and more. Maybe you are years into your marriage and struggling to keep the fire lit or feel trapped by all the long-term relational wounds and feel like you have reached the point of no return.

At times, everyone feels overwhelmed by stressors, life transitions, grief or anger. Change and healing doesn't happen in isolation and we all need help at some point. My clients range from 10 yrs old and up. My approach is strongly grounded in cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy ( ACT). Clients are encouraged to identify what’s important to them and learn ways to move toward their values. Addressing how thoughts drive feelings and behavior and creating new ways to relate with our thoughts and feelings. I'm always amazed and privileged when clients report that a different perspective has greatly altered their lives for the better, especially in the midst of tremendous life stressors. My approach alligns evidenced based research with each individual's goals to improve both emotional well being and connections.

Parenting Therapists

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
