As a depth counselor, I assist clients who need deep healing from trauma, anxiety, depression, and other wounds to find wholeness in Self and relationships again. It takes a lot of courage to shine a light into the darkest places within, and to uncover and work with the roots of our pain. I truly believe even the most difficult symptoms hold gifts for us, and its my life's work to provide the space for my clients to face the scariest parts of being human, find those gifts, and turn the uncovered material into the stuff they need to move from surviving to actually thriving.

Life is often punctuated by challenging and difficult experiences. Therefore, there is need for support from an experienced helper or fellow traveler to facilitate the client to journey through those experiences. As such, the nature of the therapist-client relationship created by the therapist holds the key for the psychotherapy process. Because of my experience of working with youth, families, adults, couples, and groups in Oklahoma since 2012, I can easily build working alliances with clients, acutely attune to them, and attend to the issues they surface in therapy.

Hello. My name is Kathryn Bishop. I've been a Licensed Professional Counselor in Oklahoma for 29 years. I work with clients from the ages of 10 to senior citizens and believe people of all ages can make changes to improve their lives.

The struggles of daily life can be overwhelming. When our most intimate relationships are struggling it can feel that we have no shelter from the storm. People and relationships need that security in order to become their most fulfilled.

With 28 years of experience in providing therapy to children, adults, and families, I can help you explore yourself and learn skills to help you become a stronger, healthier you. I meet my clients where they are and together, we can find productive ways forward in life. We are all worthy of love, acceptance, and understanding. I am trained in EMDR, CBT, Person-Centered Therapy, Internal Family Systems Therapy, and am a Certified Trauma Therapist. My goal is to understand your needs and help you meet your own wellness and growth goals.

One of my primary goals as a therapist is to highlight the tendency we have to let the problems we experience interfere with the things in life that we value most. This can leave us feeling extremely frustrated, unfulfilled, and even hopeless! I want to help people learn to practice acceptance and mindfulness, as we develop and determine a sense of direction, with the goal of restoring a sense of meaning and purpose in life.

I like to work with my clients with whatever they are bringing into counseling. Whether it’s addiction, marriage issues, or just not feeling like yourself or whether you are seeking to grow, heal, or process some area of your life know that there is no issue too small or too big to bring. I am Catholic and am happy to integrate Christian spirituality and if that is not a person’s preference I am also happy to provide just good solid counseling.

I am passionate about advocating for and working with the BGLTQIA + community. I am kink informed, non-monogamy affirming, and sex worker allied. I provide a sex-positive environment for those who are working to understand themselves better, whether that be regarding sexuality, gender, mental health, and other aspects of identity. I work with individuals, couples, multi-partnered systems, and families. I have a background working with teens in the LGBTQ+ community and their families, as well as a history of educating this population to bridge the gap between parents and their children who hold these identities.

Trying to recover from addiction or mental illness on your own is tremendously difficult. This is true for not only the one with the disorder, but for each family member who may feel desperate for change. You probably feel like you have exhausted yourself trying to recover or to help someone recover, but no positive change seems to last. Although reaching out for help is hard, the willingness to engage in counseling with an experienced therapist can give you the push you need and provide you with tools you would not have access to if you continue try to use the same ineffective strategies to solve the problems on your own.

It is difficult to navigate the things that life throws at us. We can easily feel alone and very overwhelmed amongst all the chaos and stress. We all have needs and we all want our lives to improve for the better. Seeking any form of help can be very hard (especially for men). However, it is a very brave and courageous step.
