Hello! My name is Merrie. I became a therapist after my own life challenging experiences led me to life changing experiences in therapy. Therapy is for anyone who wants to improve their mental health, enhance coping skills, process grief and loss, recover from trauma and improve connection in relationships. For 15 years it has been my privilege to help change many lives, to encourage, inspire and challenge my clients to live the life they are meant to live. With over a decade experience in a variety of settings, my passion lies in working a hybrid of school based and outpatient - working with teens, adults, and the LGBTQIA+ population. I most enjoy working through life transitions be it changes in circumstances, gender/sexuality, the natural ebbs and flows of life, or taking the next step (adulthood, career, marriage, etc). I am trained in EMDR & TF-CBT, thus I excel at working with trauma. I'm a GALAP pledge signer and take a no gatekeeping approach to serving trans and nonbinary clients. I enjoy helping families find common ground and mutual respect even around difficult subjects.

I have found adversity and peace in my lifetime, so I know struggles are real – but people can overcome! I became a counselor to help others do just that. I specialize in working with adolescents and adults who have substance use and/or other mental health disorders (co-occurring disorders). I practice client centered and client driven counseling. I use a variety of approaches with emphasis on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I also provide supervision to counselors in training to become a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and/or a Licensed Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselor (LADAC) in the state of Arkansas.

I believe that we are all equipped with an inner guidance system that pushes us to grow anytime we are out of alignment with our highest selves. Oftentimes, this guidance comes in the form of pain or emotional discomfort. Many of us may identify this pain as depression or anxiety symptoms, feelings of inadequacy, low-self-esteem, grief, anger, fear, or hopelessness.
