Every coping mechanism we have was born out of a need to get through a moment that seemed unbearable. When we struggle with our emotions, we do what we need to do to survive. Sometimes what worked well in the past doesn't serve us in the present. This can look like anxiety, depression, eating disorders, trauma, substance use, and self-harm (among other things). I help clients figure out what’s getting in the way of their healing journey, and work with them to overcome obstacles, set appropriate boundaries, and practice self-compassion.

I value the power of the relationship between therapist and client and honoring my clients is foundational to my practice. I have been described as warm, authentic, welcoming, loyal, and someone safe with whom to disclose deeper feelings and experiences. I attempt from the first session to hone in and appreciate my clients' strengths, to listen deeply with genuine compassion, and to hold my clients' shared story with great value and reverence. I seek to facilitate the therapy office as a place where the inner wisdom of the client-- the inner self--can safely emerge.

I acknowledge the bravery it takes to step into a therapy session, whether in person or online, and commit to the process. That's why I'm deeply committed to integrating the personal and professional aspects of therapy, using humor and authenticity to foster a safe and empowering environment. I am deeply committed to continuously examining my biases, schemas, identities, and experiences to understand how these facets of my personhood create strengths and blind spots, and I value when clients are willing to share in that experience themselves.

As a bicultural and bilingual (English & Spanish) therapist part of my practice involves examining the cultural and social factors affecting individuals. I recognize that therapy is not one size fits all, so I attempt to tailor my approach to help empower each client to make changes that align with their values and goals. I enjoy partnering with individuals who are interested in broadening their understanding of difficult emotions and experiences to find new ways to cope and regain a sense of stability.

I am here to work with you regarding the things in life where you feel "stuck." You may be stuck for a variety of reasons, including past or current trauma, chronic illness, relationship or work-related stressors, or caring for children or your aging parents. You might be in a heterosexual marriage and realize that you are LGBTQ, and you are scared, wondering how to move forward in a way that is sensitive to your family, and is true to your identity. I have both personal and professional experience with this issue, and I am happy to help you navigate through it.

I believe we are all traversing personalized paths through life. Destinations, experiences, triumphs, and challenges along this road forge an individualized narrative that isn’t always meant to be weathered alone. Therapy can be a place to respite, marvel at how far you’ve come, unpack burdens, relish where you are or wonder about what is over the horizon. I prioritize adopting a stance of warmth, collaboration, cultural responsiveness, and genuineness. Creating a space that welcomes your authenticity, identities, and values is important to me as a clinician. I aim to listen with empathy, trusting the expertise you have of yourself.

Not sure what you want to do with your life? Been there. Ankle-deep in your tears yet again from another disappointing relationship? Know the feeling. Unsure of your role as a person in a world that rarely recognizes or respects you? (raises hand) Maybe just sick and tired of feeling sick and tired? I got you! My education and training have certainly prepared me to handle many situations, but I excel at what I do because I have something to offer to my clients - real-world, relatable, personal experience.

Practicing vulnerability is hard, but having someone with whom you can talk openly, question freely, and collaborate makes it easier. I believe that therapeutic change is nurtured through a relationship that is supportive, compassionate, and non-judgmental. Everyone comes to therapy with unique perspectives and experiences. Together, we can honor the unique lens through which you see the world and collaborate to decide what meaningful change looks like for you.

We rarely can overcome all of life's challenges on our own, yet reaching out to others for help is often difficult. I recognize this fact as I seek to work collaboratively in helping you bring about the changes you want to see in your life. Therapy can be of enormous value in decreasing distress, more effectively managing emotions, better understanding the causes of your unhappiness, cultivating closer and more fulfilling relationships, overcoming patterns that repeatedly get in your way, and improving your ability to build a happier and more meaningful life.
