Gottman Method of couples therapy and utilize family systems theory.
Explore. Understand. Grow. These three words best explain my approach to therapy. Through the establishment of a trusted therapeutic relationship, together, we will embark on the process of psychological change. We will explore what is preventing you from reaching your full potential. You will develop a greater understanding of yourself, which will facilitate your growth into the person you want to become. I am a licensed clinical psychologist offering counseling to adults, adolescents, children, and families. I have extensive experience treating clients with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, low self-esteem, eating disorders, parenting issues, behavioral problems and career concerns.

I draw from psychodynamic theory, humanistic-existential, cognitive-behavioral (CBT), exposure therapy, Core Emotions/Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT), and The Gottman Method.
Mediocracy is not enough when it comes to providing care for those with mental health disorders and relationship challenges. I believe in the importance of every person having access to quality mental health care regardless of their background. I believe that everyone has the capacity to grow and be resilient with the proper support, process, and support. Helping to guide my clients through their personal life journey with confidence and courage is my ultimate goal.

I've completed Level 1 training in Gottman Method Couple's Therapy, and I’m also a Certified Clinical Anxiety Treatment Professional.
Anxiety, trauma, and depressive symptoms often leave us feeling out of control and hopeless. I believe healing can happen and hope can be restored. Working from an anti-racist, anti-oppressive, and LGBTQIA+ affirming lens, I want to ensure a safe space where all of my clients feel seen, heard, safe, and respected. As humans, we all want connection, although sometimes these connections cause intense emotions and great amounts of pain. I recognize the stress of single parenting, the communication issues in romantic relationships and/or families, and the struggles of dating in a world of right and left swiping.

I have completed Level 1 training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy and use this method in my work with couples.
I am passionate about helping adult individuals and couples build connection, and more satisfying, healthy relationships, through addressing sex and intimacy issues; addiction, codependency, and the impacts of trauma. Together, we may untangle patterns of intimacy avoidance, attachment wounds, betrayal trauma, parentification, and emotional or covert incest. I believe healing occurs within relationship through collaboration, curiosity, and respect. I support this value in practice by working through a trauma-informed, multicultural lens, with a sex-positive/kink-affirming approach to intimacy, relationship, and sexual wellness.

You want a therapist who is more than just a good listener. Therapy should be a supportive but challenging and dynamic space that opens up new ways of relating to the world. I aim to build a relationship based on trust and honesty to help you develop new skills and uncover opportunities for agency and growth. Clients appreciate the frankness, humor, and authenticity I bring to the therapy space. I see value in deep exploration, but will balance it with attention to opportunities for action you can take now in your daily life. I see clients not as people who are "sick", but rather "stuck." I want to help you get unstuck.

Are you feeling down, or experiencing negative thoughts? Do you struggle to find a sense of calm? Therapy can help. Are you dealing with relationship difficulties, struggles to balance career and personal life, grief, loss or trauma, adapting to health problems, or searching for personal meaning in life? Sorting out and talking through these issues, along with developing adaptive coping strategies can make a positive difference. As the therapeutic process develops, you may also explore your personal history in relation to current stressors, and develop a greater sense of self understanding and discover ways you want to tweak some "old ways of doing things."

I acknowledge the bravery it takes to step into a therapy session, whether in person or online, and commit to the process. That's why I'm deeply committed to integrating the personal and professional aspects of therapy, using humor and authenticity to foster a safe and empowering environment. I am deeply committed to continuously examining my biases, schemas, identities, and experiences to understand how these facets of my personhood create strengths and blind spots, and I value when clients are willing to share in that experience themselves.

We all long for deep, authentic connections, but we can often get stuck in old patterns with those we love. We end up sacrificing our needs, avoiding vulnerability, or "acting out" in ways we don't understand. I enjoy helping people with trusting their intuition, building self-esteem, communicating effectively, and creating meaningful boundaries and connections in relationships. I work with individuals, couples, and families of all ages, backgrounds, and identities. Together, we can identify new tools for navigating anxiety, depression, stress, and bodily symptoms often rooted in unresolved trauma.

When feeling down or distressed, finding support can be daunting. I believe that mental health struggles are rooted in relationship disconnection, and seeking someone to talk to and problem solve with is a courageous first act of self-care. In our sessions, we will shine a light on patterns of conflict or emotional reactivity that developed in response to stress and trauma. We will get curious about what is working for you already and where there is room for growth. I will empower you to self-soothe and guide you in deepening relationships in order to find relief. We will work together to create goals that are right for you.

Gottman Method Therapists

How does the Gottman method work?

One of the core doctrines of the Gottman method is that negative emotions hurt relationships about five times more than positive emotions help them. Thus, couples require five times more positive interactions than negative interactions with each other. The therapist will guide clients on how to improve communication and understanding of each other to manage conflict and have their emotional needs met. The therapist will also advise couples on how to repair relations with each other when conflict arises, and therefore avoid lasting damage.

Is the Gottman method evidence-based?

Yes, this method is an evidence-based approach to couples therapy. The method is based on more than 40 years of research by Drs. John and Julie Gottman, the psychologists who developed the method. The Gottmans analyzed decades of data to draw conclusions about what types of interactions are likely to lead to specific results, and which interventions are most likely to lead to success. Studies have found that this approach leads to improvements in relationship satisfaction, intimacy, communication skills, and a lower rate of divorce.

How long does the Gottman method take?

The duration of treatment depends on the specific challenges clients face. Sessions are typically 60 to 90 minutes long, and an average course of treatment is around 10 sessions. In some cases, such as for couples dealing with a critical problem, the therapist will suggest an intensive course of treatment, with daily sessions over the first two to four days. Treatment is complete when the couple is satisfied and has met the goals they’ve set, and when the therapist believes they have the skills to continue on their own.

Is the Gottman method effective?

Through the Gottman method, couples can achieve changes that are real and sustainable. This treatment has been used for more than 40 years; the method is supported by empirical research, including randomized controlled trials that have demonstrated effectiveness in improving relationship outcomes for couples. Like any talk therapy, success or failure depends in large part on how committed the clients are to making positive changes and working toward results.
