The individuals who come to me for support are those struggling with eating disorders. We work together to identify goals that are important to you, and address some underlying self esteem concerns and lack of power within your life. Together, we take your power back, eliminating the compulsive need to control food. The second population I serve are those with marital and relationship issues. I have completed Level 1 training of the Gottman method and utilize the strategies to help couples identify the ways in which they sabotage their relationship and restore the friendship that originally brought you together as a couple.

I enjoy working with individuals who have walked diverse paths. I have a strong affinity for those with trauma histories, recognizing the importance of healing and resilience. Clients dealing with anxiety, depression, OCD, PTSD, and/or neurodivergence will discover practical tools and healing modalities to manage their mental health. Personally, as a breast cancer survivor, I'm attuned to the complexities of illness and its impact on one's emotional well-being. I also work closely with couples who are struggling, providing them with the guidance and tools they need to navigate their relationship challenges.

Welcome! Whether you have been in counseling before, or if this is your first time, I am glad you are here. I am a PhD student with desires to help you continue, or begin, your therapeutic journey. I work with an approach to therapy that doesn't have a "one size fits all," but is holistic, evidence-based, and inclusive. If you are ready to begin, go ahead and give me a call or send an email. I will be there to meet you halfway! We can address any issues you bring to the table and set goals together. If you have any questions along the way, I will work to provide appropriate psychoeducation, resources, and interventions.

Have you been struggling to find a safe place to share your experience and feelings? Approaching change can be a vulnerable process, finding someone to engage in that process with can be even harder. I am here to walk along side you as you explore your experience with shame, trauma, perfectionism, abuse, anxiety, depression, identity, parenting, sexuality, attention and concentration difficulties, relationship challenges, grief, and your emotional experience. I aim to do so while maintaining my own cultural competency and acknowledging the larger systems of power and oppression within our society and their impact on our experience.

We love our work and we are very committed to be a part of the global community that strives to bring an effective blend of experience, expertise, and action to the counseling process in order to provide genuine healing and wholeness to children, young adults, adults, marriages, and families. Over the last eighteen years or so we have learned wonderful therapy approaches such as EMDR, somatic work, CBT, Sandtray, Theraplay, ACT, and others. We understand that each person needs to receive an individualized approach and this involves going beyond Western approaches... Our family legacies, our ancestors, our history matter....

Welcome to the first day of change. Seeking help is the first day where change is possible because you are already doing something different, which is acknowledging you need help. 20 years ago I was in your same position. I walked into my first AA where I was ready to get serious about recovery. As of April 2023, I will celebrate 20 years sober and believe in the abstinence model of change. Because it works once you are ready to take back control over your life. Of course, there is always the option to keep digging - but let me tell you, climbing is much more satisfying.

Our early childhood experiences lay the foundation for how we perceive ourselves, others, and the world. In many instances, difficult developmental experiences can impact our ability to live meaningful and satisfying lives, and it is my goal to help individuals recover from the pain of their past. I have a passion for working with individuals who look to learn more about themselves, and desire to grow mentally, emotionally, relationally, and spiritually.

We live in a culture where we deal with daily stress and sometimes trauma based on our marginalized identities, whether they be race, gender, sexual orientation, class, or ability level. Combine that with the ongoing effects of the pandemic and the stress of the constant negative news feed, and it becomes easy to feel overwhelmed and lose our balance. Having been in practice for 18 years and tuned into the ways in which our culture affects us all, I'm here to help. Reaching out to a therapist can be scary. I work to create an open, judgement-free environment where we will work on your problems collaboratively.

As a modern therapist, I provide culturally sensitive and thoughtful therapy to help individuals and couples. I understand how hard it can be to find a therapist that seems relatable or trustworthy. I work particularly well with individuals navigating trauma, relationships, and identity looking for a therapist that "gets it". This may be an overwhelming point in your life, but pursuing psychotherapy can be one of the most transformative experiences you can take to heal & grow.

I recognize and understand that anxiety, depression, trauma, and the compounding effects of those experiences can cause a sense of helplessness. Through my own human experience as well as serving in this setting. I recognize issues of ambiguity and recovery from problems that involve the mind, emotions, and spirit are long and arduous. The important piece is to keep these things in front of us as we relearn healthy skills to engage fully with life. We also must hold on to the understanding that we are solely responsible for our overall well-being.

Gottman Method Therapists

How does the Gottman method work?

One of the core doctrines of the Gottman method is that negative emotions hurt relationships about five times more than positive emotions help them. Thus, couples require five times more positive interactions than negative interactions with each other. The therapist will guide clients on how to improve communication and understanding of each other to manage conflict and have their emotional needs met. The therapist will also advise couples on how to repair relations with each other when conflict arises, and therefore avoid lasting damage.

Is the Gottman method evidence-based?

Yes, this method is an evidence-based approach to couples therapy. The method is based on more than 40 years of research by Drs. John and Julie Gottman, the psychologists who developed the method. The Gottmans analyzed decades of data to draw conclusions about what types of interactions are likely to lead to specific results, and which interventions are most likely to lead to success. Studies have found that this approach leads to improvements in relationship satisfaction, intimacy, communication skills, and a lower rate of divorce.

How long does the Gottman method take?

The duration of treatment depends on the specific challenges clients face. Sessions are typically 60 to 90 minutes long, and an average course of treatment is around 10 sessions. In some cases, such as for couples dealing with a critical problem, the therapist will suggest an intensive course of treatment, with daily sessions over the first two to four days. Treatment is complete when the couple is satisfied and has met the goals they’ve set, and when the therapist believes they have the skills to continue on their own.

Is the Gottman method effective?

Through the Gottman method, couples can achieve changes that are real and sustainable. This treatment has been used for more than 40 years; the method is supported by empirical research, including randomized controlled trials that have demonstrated effectiveness in improving relationship outcomes for couples. Like any talk therapy, success or failure depends in large part on how committed the clients are to making positive changes and working toward results.
