When working with couples, I draw from both the Gottman Method and Emotionally Focused Therapy.
Have you been struggling with managing the changes life has dealt to you? I have worked with individuals from six months to ninety-eight years old, couples, and groups of individuals to support them in their life changes and help them address their needs through therapeutic interventions. My approach to therapy relies on the ability to create safety and developing a strong therapeutic alliance with you. I view this alliance as the vehicle for change that you are looking for. I want to work to meet you where you are at, so that you feel understood and heard in your experience.

Life can sometimes feel overwhelming, exhausting, and filled with obstacles. I emphasize building trust and rapport with each person. I firmly believe that each person deserves to work with someone they can trust and freely open up with. My approach to therapy is to help you overcome those obstacles, and reconnect with yourself, your loved ones, and your world. I find that it is important to ensure that each person can find their voice and use it to advocate for their needs.

As a modern therapist, I provide culturally sensitive and thoughtful therapy to help individuals and couples. I understand how hard it can be to find a therapist that seems relatable or trustworthy. I work particularly well with individuals navigating trauma, relationships, and identity looking for a therapist that "gets it". This may be an overwhelming point in your life, but pursuing psychotherapy can be one of the most transformative experiences you can take to heal & grow.

Relationships are at the heart of our human experience, shaping who we are and how we see the world. They offer us connection, comfort, and growth, yet they also bring challenges that reveal our vulnerabilities. In navigating these highs and lows, relationships teach us resilience, empathy, and the strength that comes from being truly seen and understood. In our work together, my priority is that, to provide a safe, collaborative space where we can explore and accept all parts of ourselves and our relationships.

Hi, I’m Gabriela (she/ her/ ella)! Our work in therapy is about the core essence of what it means to be human, to love, to hurt, to hurt others, and to help. I am rooting for you! I know that what brings you here may feel overwhelming, but this is the first step. I believe therapy should be collaborative and inclusive. I bring a lot of energy and humor as well as compassion and understanding to my sessions.

Being human is messy and the relationships we have with ourselves and others can often feel even messier. However, you, through your lived experiences, have a significant amount of important data about what is working for you versus what is not. Together we can use that data and determine what variables have been supportive as well as what elements may need a revised approach. Therapeutic work with me involves a deep respect for consent – you get to choose our direction, our focus, and where we are headed. I may gently steer us down a path, but ultimately you are the captain of our journey.

My toolbox includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, the Gottman method, and solution-focused techniques.
Hi! I’m Izabella Bebenek (she/her). As a therapist, I specialize in exploring complexities within families, romantic relationships, friendships, or work relationships. I deeply believe the quality of our relationships determines the quality of our lives. During my time in this field, I have witnessed that every human being strives for social interaction, whether with a friend, partner, or family. I also noticed that dysfunctional patterns in any of these relationships might cause enormous pain in clients. I believe working with relationship conflicts might help clients change their life qualities.

While working with couples, I use the Gottman Method and help couples move from gridlock to dialogue, uncover the roots of their perpetual issues, and improve their communication.
I work with adults and couples who are experiencing relationship insecurity and emotional instability, depression, anxiety, grief/loss, life transitions, or trauma-related symptoms. My approach is based on the needs and strengths of each client. Collaboratively, we will identify your repetitive thoughts and behaviors and find their roots. I provide genuine compassion and insight to facilitate clients’ healing and uncover their subconscious parts (blind spots) that often cause maladaptive behaviors. Clients will establish healthy behaviors and relationships and will regulate their emotions at ease.

Gottman Method Therapists

How does the Gottman method work?

One of the core doctrines of the Gottman method is that negative emotions hurt relationships about five times more than positive emotions help them. Thus, couples require five times more positive interactions than negative interactions with each other. The therapist will guide clients on how to improve communication and understanding of each other to manage conflict and have their emotional needs met. The therapist will also advise couples on how to repair relations with each other when conflict arises, and therefore avoid lasting damage.

Is the Gottman method evidence-based?

Yes, this method is an evidence-based approach to couples therapy. The method is based on more than 40 years of research by Drs. John and Julie Gottman, the psychologists who developed the method. The Gottmans analyzed decades of data to draw conclusions about what types of interactions are likely to lead to specific results, and which interventions are most likely to lead to success. Studies have found that this approach leads to improvements in relationship satisfaction, intimacy, communication skills, and a lower rate of divorce.

How long does the Gottman method take?

The duration of treatment depends on the specific challenges clients face. Sessions are typically 60 to 90 minutes long, and an average course of treatment is around 10 sessions. In some cases, such as for couples dealing with a critical problem, the therapist will suggest an intensive course of treatment, with daily sessions over the first two to four days. Treatment is complete when the couple is satisfied and has met the goals they’ve set, and when the therapist believes they have the skills to continue on their own.

Is the Gottman method effective?

Through the Gottman method, couples can achieve changes that are real and sustainable. This treatment has been used for more than 40 years; the method is supported by empirical research, including randomized controlled trials that have demonstrated effectiveness in improving relationship outcomes for couples. Like any talk therapy, success or failure depends in large part on how committed the clients are to making positive changes and working toward results.
