I have expertise with issues of grief and loss, as well as issues of emerging adulthood.
I provide quality mental health counseling and therapy that is thoughtfully tailored to your needs. Our work together will address concerns in an empowering and centering way that produces substantive change. My approach is connective (Therapy works best when we are able to connect and work well together) and directive (by directive I mean that I give things for you to do during the week like writing, journaling, reading, exercises, reflections, and/or activities). I'm known for being helpful with people who have been through therapy and haven't had success. I help people find aliveness, creativity, and strength.

My areas of interest include anxiety, depression, self-esteem/body confidence, trauma/PTSD, and grief.
I strive to build meaningful and impactful relationships with anyone who decides to begin individual or couples therapy with me. As we are developing our therapeutic relationship, I seek to understand and demonstrate respect for your identities, your perspective of the world, and to provide a therapeutic space that empowers you to find peace, balance, and security within. You and I will set the tone of our sessions. Our sessions will open and close with open-ended questions, “temperature checks”, recaps, or debriefs in which we will both express whatever concerns, emotions and thoughts come before or during conversation.

As a trauma-informed therapist, I believe developing trust and safety within the therapeutic relationship is crucial to doing meaningful work together. For this reason, I strive to bring warmth and authenticity to my sessions with the goal of supporting clients in feeling truly seen and heard. In graduate school, I trained in feminist therapy which has informed my belief that clients are experts of their own experience and given me a deep understanding of how identity and oppression relate to one’s mental health. I am particularly interested in working with my clients around trauma, grief/ loss, and relationships.

It's okay to talk about it. Life brings unexpected and difficult challenges that leave us feeling lost and unsure. Grief, trauma, relationship struggles, life transition, work-related issues, addiction, existential or spiritual doubts, and persistent feelings of guilt, shame, and inadequacy. These experiences can be demoralizing and defeating but also provide an immense opportunity for change and growth.

You have the innate ability to usher change into your life! We experience things in life that often leave us feeling like we have been knocked down or knocked out. Whether its trauma from our childhood or a relationship in adulthood, whether we battle with anxiety, depression, PTSD, lonliness, stress, low self esteem and self worth, life transitions, or the death or non death process of grief and loss, we have all had life experiences that shape how we relate to the world.

I became a psychotherapist late in life, bringing to our sessions a rich tapestry of real-life experiences and a solid foundation in biomedical sciences, psychodynamic psychotherapy, and psychoanalysis. I know firsthand that there are moments when we realize something in our world isn't quite right. Relationship difficulties, emotional traumas, grief, and a lack of motivation can make us question our ability to cope with reality. We can work together on navigating the intricacies of your life with the help of trauma-informed, attachment-oriented, depth psychology, and psychoanalytic approaches.

Grief Therapists
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
