Glenn Counseling Center offers integrative clinical therapeutic services for adolescents, young adults and families. Our clinicians work closely with various schools on the North Shore helping provide collaborative and wrap around support for students and families. We focus on children ages 5 through young adult and provide individual, group, and family therapy. We pride ourselves in our inclusiveness and our skills in working with individual and family trauma and crises.

My name is Marissa Krager, I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and Licensed School Social Worker (PEL) in the state of Illinois. I like to look at my clients as a whole, (environment, support, interests, strengths, weaknesses) not just individually. I go by my client’s pace, assessing how you are working in counseling and understanding what you're able to process/handle in those moments, never adding pressure. Specializing in trauma, anxiety, depression, and general counseling.

I am trauma-informed, trained in EMDR and Psychedelic Assisted therapies. I am certified in integrative medicine for mental health and incorporate alternative/wholistic approaches to enable mind-body balance. I l also bring neuroscience, conflict resolution, expressive arts, play, sand-tray, and attachment work into practice, and offer walk and talk therapy. I see clients at all stages of the lifespan from infants to adults.

I have an eclectic background, originating in Northbrook, IL, where I played sports and performed as a singer/actor/musician, connecting with all types of people. I attended college at Miami University and had firsthand experience working through my own mental health challenges. It shaped the course of my life and I returned to school for Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology/Marriage and Family Therapy. Living in San Diego, I have been cultivating my therapeutic expertise since 2011.

I have helped my clients deal with major life issues in university, school, business, community, and hospital settings. I have been fortunate to have had full-time commitments on the counseling staff at Northwestern University, serving as the director during my final eight of fifteen years, and retiring after 28 years as a professor in the graduate program of Counselor Education at Northeastern Illinois University, educating and training master's level counselors in clinical and school settings. During those years, I continued working with outside consulting and private practice, but now focus on clinical practice.

My 40 years as a restructuring lawyer gives him the unique life experience to help my patients identify the problems that brought them into therapy, and then engage with them in a journey to find the individual strengths they already possess to move past the problem and forward with their lives. I enjoy working with children, teens, young adults, and families on a variety of presenting concerns such as anxiety, depression, transitioning into adulthood, parenting, children of divorce/separation, family/relationship issues, navigating school stress, and more. Therapy is not just for crisis situations, but for helping to create more stability in life. I also have experience in family law which allows me to better assist with more complex family situations. I believe in working collaboratively with families, schools, and other professionals to see the best outcome for my clients.

My integrative therapeutic approach emphasizes empathic receptiveness and mindful observance. I strive to create a safe and productive environment with patients generating a strong therapeutic alliance. My goal is to utilize my patient’s strengths and weaknesses to assist them in generating a healthy well-being and reaching the identified therapeutic goals and expectations. I exercise a variety of perspectives through which patients will gain mindfulness, the ability to empower oneself and self-acceptance in their identity. Emphasis is given to maintaining changes so they exist long term.

I treat adults and adolescents struggling with depression, stress and anxiety, bipolar disorder, ADHD, PTSD, relationship concerns, and attachment issues. I also provide parenting support and couples counseling. My approach involves psychodynamic psychotherapy and relational therapy. I also introduce some cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT).
