You're not crazy! Relationships are hard and they require hard work. They can also be extremely rewarding and worth all the work. Therapy is quite similar. Do you need help to bring the spark back into your marriage? Heal your relationship after an affair? Work through painful or traumatic memories? Help coping with life cycle transitions? Develop better communication? As your therapist I will support you in achieving these goals by encouraging and respectfully challenging you in order to create the change you are seeking through therapy.

Creating art promotes emotional awareness, reflection and processing of the human experience, and the beauty of using art therapeutically is that previous art experience is not required. I'm glad to work with clients who have never made art, or make it every day. Whether you want to work on processing experience and emotion, need mental health support, want to use an integrative mental health approach or just need some time to experience mindfulness and stress management tools, I am here to help you utilize art therapy.

I've been a psychotherapist for over 40 years. What I have found is the most powerfull tool is the relationships I develop with my clients which are often deeply meaningful, based on understanding the depth of the person, often extending to the inclusion of spiritual experience. I am a fully trained marriage and family therapist, and I have graduated from the Minnesota Psychoanalytic Institute as a certified Psychoanalyst. The American Psychoanalytic Institute has awarded me the status of a Training and Supervising Analyst, the highest level of certification awarded. I want to help people find their own sense of truth.

There are moments when life can feel nonstop and overwhelming. Whether it’s relationships, work, parenting, life transitions – it can all feel too demanding. Finding someone who can walk alongside you in those moments when you need it, matters. I want to be a support in your life that looks at those moments of overwhelm and give you the tools of how to find a different approach in them. To provide a space that allows you to show up and not be judged for what you are bringing, but for you to be met with empathy and compassion. To feel a sense of hope that you hold the gifts within you to take that next step forward.

Hey! Relationships are everything to me and lucky for you I do not play around when it comes to them! People call me "Mama Leila" because of my protectiveness and care. In therapy this translates to: protecting the health and safety of YOU and your relationships, caring and holding hope when you might not be able to and modeling what a healthy relationship can and should look like! We'll discuss: boundaries, self-love, communication, needs, identity, culture and power.

Are you not feeling quite right, and maybe not even sure why? Is it hard to be around others (partners, family, friends) and perhaps even be alone with yourself? Being misunderstood is exhausting. Working collaboratively with you, I would like to understand your personal experience and problems so that we can work toward a life that is more meaningful and less distressing.

Understanding the self is the first step toward change. Through compassion, reflection and skill development one has the opportunity to remove obstacles in the form of beliefs, mobilize one's inner resources, reduce suffering and create a more meaningful life. I have worked with adults who have survived trauma/abuse, struggled with problems in mood and thought and experienced self-worth injuries.

I am gobsmacked by the power of grief, love, trauma, attachment & joy. I help by integrating life’s most painful experiences. Integration leads to transformation which opens you up to endless possibilities.

Here are 3 things I want you to know if we are to work together:
1) I care about my clients. In my 20 years I've seen a lot & with your inherent strengths & wisdom & my experience, we can deal with whatever you bring.
2) Our sessions will be about change. What we talk about will have a purpose. We will explore where you learned beliefs about yourself, patterns of behavior and ways you do relationships that impact the issues holding you back. We will also develop a vision for change and work together to get you there.

Working with people overwhelmed by trauma, depressed, anxious, or simply stuck, is a passion of mine. Why? Because I have found in both my own life & professional experience that, paradoxically, these painful areas of our life can offer us opportunity for personal growth and understanding ourselves. To be clear, this is not easy, and takes lots of courage. It's a journey, a practice, which leads to self-compassion & a healthy way to live authentically in the world. In a relationship of trust, I will support & challenge you to find your own inner wisdom, your own answers to wholehearted living.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.
Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
How much does therapy cost?
The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.
What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?
Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
Are therapy sessions confidential?
Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
