Are you or your child having a hard time? Life is full of both struggle/pain and beauty/joy. It can be especially difficult to manage the painful hard times if we are feeling stuck, doubting ourselves, or lacking emotional support. Many times, we are subconsciously holding onto fixed and limiting beliefs from the past that influence how we think, feel, and act in the present.

Our world is a challenging place to live in right now. Anxiety and depression are common and yet isolating at the same time. We're encouraged to seek help and when we do, there can be consequences such as missed work, strained finances and even judgement from others. Are you experiencing any of these issues? Are you feeling nervous, scared, or worried and can't identify the cause? What about feeling isolated from friends or family, although surrounded by them most of the time? Sometimes these lonely and nervous feelings lead to further withdrawal and avoidance of the activities that typically bring us joy. I want to help you.

At the heart of my practice is behavioral health therapy, a powerful tool to enhance the quality of life. By empowering clients to focus on positive aspects, challenge negative self-talk, practice self-respect, manage stress and resolve conflicts in their relationships, I aim to foster positive transformation and growth. I believe that even small steps can lead to significant improvements, enriching daily experiences and boosting overall well-being.

At times, we need a direction in life-a "starting point" to guide us back into balance. The realization of this began for me personally after being diagnosed with breast cancer while I was pregnant with my first child. It was during this spiritual and life altering journey that I fully recognized that we all have the potential to create optimal health for ourselves, emotionally, spiritually, and physically. I believe that all forms of healing are rooted in the mind, body and spirit. With guidance, we can harness these elements to invoke necessary change to step into our power of self healing.

I believe it is my role as a therapist to help support you in facilitating change in a nonjudgmental environment that offers accountability. We are a therapeutic team - you being the expert of your own experience and me being a sounding board for thoughts, feelings, and emotions. My therapeutic approach combines person centered therapy with aspects of cognitive behavioral (CBT), solutions focused, and dialectical-behavioral (DBT) therapies. This means we will implement skills for emotion regulation, communication, and facing anxiety while also making space to talk about your experiences.

It can be intimidating and uncomfortable to realize that you can’t quite handle an issue by yourself. You may be unsure of where to begin or what resources can help. The important part is that you are open to getting help (even if it’s scary to admit). You know you want a compassionate, trusted counselor who understands your unique situation, and you know you could use the help sooner rather than later. We hope we can be everything you need and more. We know it takes courage to seek mental health support, and we want to do what we can to help. Let’s see if we would be a good fit for each other.

Strength-Based Therapists

How does strength-based therapy work?

During strength-based therapy sessions, the therapist will ask about an individual’s experiences of stress, pain, or trauma with the goal of orienting the client to view themselves as a survivor rather than a victim, and focusing on their strengths rather than on their weaknesses. In framing a client’s personal narrative along these lines, the therapist and client work together to identify existing skills that can be harnessed.

Is strength-based therapy evidence-based?

Strength-based therapy is an evidence-based treatment that has been studied extensively and shown to be effective across domains. The treatment has been found to be particularly effective in helping individuals who are experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, and other mental health concerns. Strength-based therapy has been used by therapists to help clients for more than 60 years.

How long does strength-based therapy last?

There’s no precise timeline for strength-based therapy. The duration of treatment depends on the individual’s specific needs and goals and the severity of their concerns. Some individuals may find they achieve their therapeutic goals quickly, while others might benefit from ongoing support and guidance in order to continue progressing.

How effective is strength-based therapy?

Clinical research and decades of practice have shown strength-based therapy to be an effective treatment to improve mental health and well-being for many conditions. The treatment can engender a sense of connection and collaboration between the therapist and the individual, fostering a positive therapeutic relationship. For individuals with narcissistic tendencies, strength-based therapy may be less effective, as the focus on the individual’s strengths may undermine the work needed to honestly assess the challenges the individual faces.
