I strive to build a therapeutic environment where my clients are accepted fully as worthy, capable individuals. I believe that thoughts, feelings, and our actions interact constantly based on past experiences that continue to influence our present. I would be happy to assist you in developing new ways of thinking about past, present, and future events in order to achieve your best self. I enjoy working with a wide variety of clients, but most frequently help those struggling with depression/anxiety and members of the LGBTQ community.

In the context of mental health, an ideal client is someone who actively engages in the therapeutic process, is open to self-reflection, and is committed to making positive changes in their life. However, It's important to note that everyone is unique, and the ideal client can vary based on the specific therapeutic approach, the individual therapist's style, and the client's specific needs and goals. Our focus is on matching clients with the right therapist to maximize the effectiveness of treatment. It ensures that clients receive personalized and tailored support that aligns with their needs and preferences.

I am not your typical nor traditional therapist! If you're looking for a therapist who is stuffy and uptight, or if you prefer clinical jargon and lots of big words, I am NOT the therapist for you. I’m the therapist who may show up wearing jeans and sandals one week and a long dress the next. I have tattoos and don’t try to hide them. I will call you on your crap when appropriate, and I might even swear while doing so. I support BLM, LGBTQIA+ and I believe in Science. I may not be a "typical" therapist, yet I am me & I am genuine. If you want to become the best YOU possible, give me a call! I know I can help.

If you have found my website, chances are you or someone you care about is going through a very challenging time. It may be a time of turmoil, conflict and pain. Psychotherapy involves attending to the concerns you have or issues you are facing in your life. I am here to help, and have worked with many people going through tough times, who have worried that things will not get better. I know that they can. Struggle and conflict, while frightening and painful, can be a hallmark of change.

I believe working closely with clients to help them reach their fullest potential through developing goals, creating healthy boundaries, and empowering you for change. I use evidence based cognitive behavioral methods to help you challenge everyday thinking that keeps you locked in self destructive or unhealthy patterns, which ultimately diminish quality of life and satisfaction of relationships. It is crucial for clients to understand their issues fully so corrective action and healing may happen. I meet my clients where they are in their lives and incorporate their culture, personal talents and strengths, religion, sexual orientation, and ethnic background into the counseling process for authentic exchange.

I specialize in transforming relationships, working as an Emotionally Focused Therapist with a focus on couples and individuals. I believe that by enhancing a couple's dynamic, we not only assist them but positively impact future generations. Many individuals' most significant challenges stem from relational issues. As relationships improve, individual struggles often become more manageable.

Everyone deserves this chance to better themselves and relieve the burden that mental health issues can bring to our daily lives. There are many reasons people seek therapy. There could be feelings of nervousness or sadness, or an urge to finally get what's bothering you off your chest. No matter what it is, therapy brings out the best in you, and may surprise you. I've interacted with many clients who come in for one problem, and then discover hidden pieces of themselves.

The time we live in today is increasingly stressful and complex for young people and families who are grappling with post-pandemic fears and health issues, in addition to complex family histories, relationships, identity issues, social media pressures and educational expectations. Many feel stuck, anxious and/or depressed, which comes out in their behavior. As the young person or their caregiver, you are understandably concerned. You want to learn why this is happening and how to make the hardship ‘go away’. Mental health is not just in the mind, but a function of the body, spirit, social influence and environment as well.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
