however, empathy, compassion, and real-life experience is the bridge from theory to reality.
A life that is trauma, or drama-free is often based in fairy tales. Let's face it happily ever after does not provide details of "who", "what" and "how" happy is defined. Real people have real problems...relationship issues, financial issues, employment issues, depression, substance abuse, anxiety, stress, and grief are just a few of the problems we deal with regularly. Healthy coping skills are necessary tools to help people master life's issues and maintain their health mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Whether you need help in developing coping skills or strengthening coping skills, help is available.

I have provided mental health and life skills to children ages 6-17 in Detroit, MI, helped complete a research paper on a Telephone Outreach program (Healthier Black Elders Center in Detroit), and facilitated a virtual social group for older adults (Party Line).
My approach to therapy is based on the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy perspective, which focuses on the automatic thoughts one is having about oneself, others, or the world while addressing unwanted behavior patterns. I will facilitate conversation to work alongside you in your therapeutic journey, and I use reframing of negative thoughts, homework assignments, and genuine empathy. I earned a Master's of Social Work and a Bachelor's of Social Work from Wayne State University. I hold a limited license in social work and will be fully licensed in a couple of years.

I specialize in working with Clients who are: navigating anxiety and/or depression, experiencing a life transition, coping with burnout, grieving, caregiving for a loved one, or interested in addressing patterns of people-pleasing and/or codependency.
I was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan and recently returned to begin my career as a clinical social worker. I previously worked as a Director of Audience Services for several large not-for-profit theaters in Chicago, where I developed my interest in working closely with individuals and groups. In my free time I enjoy gardening, hiking, and spending time with my dogs. I approach work with each Client from a non-hierarchical perspective: I learn with and through my Clients how best to assist them in reaching their goals.

If you are looking to tackle understanding yourself better, with whatever life is throwing at you currently, I look forward to setting up a 15 minute consultation to get to know you.
My professional journey as a therapist has been informed by trauma and the cycles we find ourselves within generationally, within our lifetime, and how we see them live out in relationships. I focus on assisting with acknowledging what you have navigated on your journey thus far and how these events and experiences have shaped you into the current version of yourself. This process is client led to assist clients with a natural balance of processing that isn’t difficult or jolting to your nervous system. My goal is to let your body and mind help lead us on the healing journey that makes sense to you.

Life Coaching Therapists

What can I expect from life coaching?

Clients and coaches will typically start by identifying the problem area(s) that the client hopes to address—then, the coach will help the client brainstorm potential solutions and explore concrete techniques to help the client attain their goals. Coaching is typically short-term and focused on finding solutions in the here and now, rather than exploring a client’s past. In addition to strategies aimed at the client’s specific concerns, coaches may encourage general stress management techniques such as meditation.

Can a life coach help treat anxiety?

Because the majority of life coaches are not licensed clinicians, they are not qualified to diagnose or treat anxiety. Anyone struggling with anxiety or another mental health condition should seek help from a licensed mental health practitioner. However, some coaching clients who struggle with subclinical anxiety report that working with their coach on other problems—such as career dissatisfaction or unhealthy habits—has a positive effect on their anxiety.

Can life coaching be done online?

Yes. While life coaching often happens in person, many coaches conduct sessions over the phone or via online platforms such as Zoom or Skype. Because life coaches are not subject to local licensing regulations in the same way that therapists are, they are able to see clients who live in other locations.

How long does life coaching last?

Life coaching tends to be a shorter-term process than therapy, though it does not always unfold over a specific period of time and is instead based on the coach’s or the client’s preferences. Coaching often takes place over three to 12 months but may be shorter or longer if necessary.
