Dr. Rakos received his master's and doctoral degrees in clinical psychology from Kent State University and his bachelor's degree from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. He recently retired from his position as associate dean for faculty and program development in the College of Sciences and Health Professions at Cleveland State University, where he also was a professor of psychology. Dr. Rakos is widely published in the areas of assertiveness training, self-management, law and psychology, and cultural analysis, and is the author of Assertive Behavior: Theory, Research and Training.

He served in supervisory and investigation positions with the Cuyahoga County Department of Children and Family Services for 20 years. He is a member of the International Dyslexia Association and on the Board of Directors with the Lutheran Metropolitan Ministries START program, which serves at-risk youth. He also serves as an adjunct instructor for Case Western Reserve and Cleveland State Universities.
