“I am who I am connected to. I am because we are.” This is called Kapwa, and within the Filipino culture, it means inclusiveness is the moral obligation to treat one another equally. This is how I approach therapy with all my clients. I am accepting new clients 18+, specializing in complex trauma, suicide loss, grief, attachment trauma, and BIPOC/AANHPI cultural issues. I believe the path we walk often has been carved for us through culture and generations of trauma that have been passed down to us. Methods I use are Psychodynamic Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Imago Relationship Therapy, and Relational-Cultural Therapy.

Through our work together, I will integrate different modalities to help build skills, address mental health symptoms, identify and process trauma, and create sustainable, new and healthy patterns.
I believe healing and freedom are possible and am honored to walk with people to find their way to relief. We know trauma can rob us of safety and trust. Together, we will work to rebuild a sense of trust and create a safe place for you to unpack hard things. I practice from an eclectic approach which allows me to pull from different therapeutic theories and modalities to best serve clients. My work centers around creating a non-judgemental place to heal and empower you to implement skills and tools in your own story.

I provide trauma-informed care through a relational and attachment-focused lens, believing that experiences in early relationships can impact how current relationships are approached.
I work with people navigating anxiety, grief, trauma, difficult family dynamics, and adjustments. Do you frequently find yourself unheard, overwhelmed, withdrawn, and/or stressed? If so, I would be happy to walk alongside you on your journey and help you go from feeling isolated and misunderstood to feeling connected, seen, and understood.

I am trained in clinical hypnosis, somatic psychotherapy, and ego state therapy as well as other trauma-informed modalities.
Most of the folks I work with have experienced relational trauma (abuse/neglect), dysfunctional family systems, and/or social marginalization. Our brains and nervous systems are incredibly resilient and creative in adapting to these challenges. Ironically, sometimes the very adaptations that once helped us survive keep us stuck in painful patterns. My clients often struggle with chronic anxiety, panic attacks, overwhelming emotions, or numbness and disconnection. They may feel intense self-doubt or internal criticism. They may long for close connections but also feel terrified of relationships.

I take a trauma-informed approach to healing past wounds and creating new pathways.
Do you often feel like you are not meeting your own standards? Do you feel stuck in uncertainty, unable to move in the best direction? Is it hard for you to feel satisfied? Do you desire more fulfilling relationships with others? Growing up, you may have encountered people who were critical of your performance / appearance, and who burdened you with unrealistic expectations. This can make it difficult for you to feel happy with your achievements and quiet your inner critic. You may be numbing some of the pain with unhealthy choices that are starting to feel just as inescapable. If this resonates, therapy could be a good next step.

I have been a licensed counselor for over sixteen years and I have been in the helping profession for nearly thirty-five years. Much of my experience is working with people who have experienced trauma, especially within relationships. I work best with individuals who are dealing with trauma, anxiety, depression, and issues of empowerment. I feel you are the expert concerning your life. Maybe you just need some help exploring that. My style is not to give advice, but rather to provide a safe environment and relationship where you can feel free to grow and transform.

Over the last 13 years of working within the world of neurodiversity, trauma, and other mental health experiences, I have come to appreciate the importance of finding a therapist who is the right fit.
Neurodiversity-affirming and trauma informed care at Rising Winds Counseling goes beyond the therapeutic relationship to encompass our advocacy efforts, treatment planning, telehealth option, and even our office space (soft lighting and other sensory considerations). We acknowledge that there has been a history of ableism within the mental health treatment that has created some fears related to seeking therapy which is why we rely on strength based approaches, research that is specific to neurodiverse individuals, and a therapeutic approach that empowers you to both achieve your goals and honor the unique aspects of yourself.

As a therapist specializing in trauma recovery for couples & individuals, I am dedicated to helping you navigate the complexities of your story- allowing you to live more fully.
Are you a couple or an individual feeling lost, as if something is off, but you can't quite put your finger on it? Perhaps you feel trapped in repetitive cycles, yet longing to break free from old patterns that no longer serve you. Maybe you've done therapy before and feel like you've gathered insight, but intellectualizing isn't getting you where you want to be.

All of these methods work exceptionally well with trauma/ PTSD.
Each one of us experiences psychological challenges in life that we try to meet using whatever strategies we know. However, sometimes the challenges become too great and our coping strategies stop working. This can be compounded by the fact that we often internalize messages from our society, however well-intentioned, that limit our abilities to understand ourselves and our world. It is in these moments that we can use support from therapists to turn down the noise of the world so that we may find our own inner wisdom about who we are, what we need, and ultimately how to heal.

We help individuals resolve the trauma that is stored in their body and impacting their lives.
It takes a brave person to recognize that they want more in life; it takes a courageous person to go after that. Trauma, regardless of where it stems from, alters all areas of life including how we see ourselves, others, and the world, how we relate, how we feel in our bodies, how we express emotions, how we think, and our personal sense of safety and autonomy in the world. We desire to help you resolve the experiences that resulted in trauma and recover from the impact trauma has had on your life.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
