Hi! My name is Melissa Cruz, I am a licensed mental health counselor at Buxani Counseling Care. Our mission is to empower our clients to resolve their issues and lead fulfilling lives through a mindful and tailored therapeutic approach to mental health.

You are use to taking care of everyone else and often your needs come last. My clients come with many strengths but are exhausted in feeling the way they do making life challenging. As a licensed marriage and family therapist, my diverse experience has equipped me to assist individuals and couples dealing with a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, relationship dynamics, parenting challenges, career hurdles, adjustments to life changes, family conflicts, and stress management. I deeply understand the profound impact that relationships can have on an individual's holistic well-being. Whether navigating relationships with family of origin, a partner, a friend, or a colleague, cultivating a healthy sense of self lays the foundation for building and nurturing positive connections.

Making the decision to begin therapy can elicit a variety of emotions. I strive to inspire creativity and empowerment in a therapeutic space that is warm, supportive, and tailored to your needs. I have a plethora of experience working with people ranging from ages 3 to over 100. In my career, I have worked with people within communities including veterans, university students, parents, high achieving professionals, couples, and families. Together, we have navigated a wide array of life transitions, grief and loss, trauma, depression, anxiety, sexual wellness, chronic health concerns, legacy work, and identity development.

My counseling style is empathic and collaborative. I believe people can make changes in their lives. I work with a diverse population from different stages of life. My approach works with perceptions of self and the world. As perceptions change and grow; so do people’s lives. The meaning we assign to events and experiences can impact us. Sometimes, we may not even be aware of it. When awareness grows; change can occur. I enjoy seeing people make changes; small and large to improve enjoyment in life and relationships. As we work together, we will attempt to find solutions which work for you.

Dr. Ami Owen received her undergraduate degree in Social Science and a minor in Psychology. She received her Master’s in General Family Therapy with an advanced emphasis on families and trauma. Dr. Owen also received a Doctorate in Counseling and is a Clinically Certified Trauma Professional. She is licensed in ID, WA, AZ, TX, FL, CA, UT and is a nationally approved supervisor through the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (AAMFT). She takes delight in mentoring therapists on the complexities of family systems and consults with providers across the country to improve systems approaches.
