Hello and Congratulations on deciding to improve your life! No matter what stage you've reached or how overwhelmed you might feel, it's never too late to find a sense of peace and joy. If you're reading this profile, you are likely feeling a need for change. Or perhaps you hear a voice whispering, "There has to be something more". Life is too short to live with pain, fear, loneliness, and confusion. Just because you can't see how to get there doesn't mean it can't be done. I would be honored to walk this path of rediscovery with you.

Hurting? In need of guidance and direction? In need of "real" therapy and "real" results or simply in need of counseling that works. For more than 26 years, I have had the opportunity to work with a multitude of cases and human behaviors that seek to hinder personal performance and individual capability. It is my desire to assist individuals, families, marriages and professionals holistically (physically, psychologically, emotionally, socially and spiritually) to achieve their GOD given potential.

Change is inevitable; no one stays the same in their life journey. I am passionate about helping others walk through the mountains and valleys in life growing stronger by building their inner strength. Each one of us has wounds and scars but they do not have to define who we are. I love working with individuals, couples, and families to draw on the positive qualities of each member in the family system in order to guide the family toward a more mentally healthier life. Connection is the secret ingredient to your overall well being. When we honor our pain by sharing it, we can heal it. Remaining silent can give power to the pain.

A key to the effectiveness of therapy is the relationship itself; it's important to me that you feel accepted for exactly who you are at this moment. As your partner in change, I'm always looking beneath the surface to make meaning and connections. While helping you challenge unproductive thoughts and sharing tried and true techniques, I will help you process the experiences that have led to your current state so you can actively choose how to go forward on your journey, becoming the author of your own story. This way, you can become more resilient, better able to handle future challenges, and more prepared to rebound from setbacks.

If you are having a difficult time dealing and would like to speak to someone to clarify your thoughts or figure out what to do next, it might be a good time to reach out for therapy. A lot of people feel isolated with their problems and have nobody to turn to about what really matters to them. You may feel like your past is not letting you have any peace and looking to move forward. Life is difficult and learning how to cope with the ups and downs is important, especially if you have been diagnosed with a mental illness like depression, anxiety, bipolar, schizophrenia, etc. or have suffered a loss or setback in your personal life.

Dissociative Disorders (DID) Therapists

How does therapy for dissociative disorders work?

Dissociation may be triggered by stress or other upsetting circumstances, and therapy can address the traumatic events at the core of an individual’s dissociation. Understanding why a person may dissociate can help the therapist and the individual come up with alternative methods of coping. A person with a dissociative disorder may get stuck on negative thinking, for example, and treatment like Cognitive behavioral therapy is a gold standard for breaking such thinking. And dialectical behavior therapy, for example, can help a person manage their anguish through better emotion regulation.

Which therapies are best for dissociative disorders?

Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, schema therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful memories and past traumas. These therapies work to integrate an individual's different identities into one person.

Are there specific medications for dissociation?

There are no specific medications prescribed for dissociative disorders. However, psychosis, depression, anxiety, and/or panic often co-occur in dissociative disorders. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for any accompanying symptom—which may include antipsychotics like aripiprazole, antidepressants like selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or anti-anxiety drugs like benzodiazepines.

How often and how long are therapy sessions?

Like any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. There are still other patients, especially those who have co-occurring conditions like depression and anxiety, who may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months.
