I also draw from extensive training in other mindfulness-based and somatic-oriented modalities, and occasionally provide coping skills from CBT, CPT, DBT, and ACT.
I work with adults only and specialize in treatment for chronic pain, trauma/PTSD, and anxiety. I also help with a range of other issues. I especially enjoy supporting clients who have centralized conditions (e.g., fibromyalgia, IBS) and/or autoimmune diseases alongside histories of trauma. Clients often come into therapy with me expressing a desire to more deeply understand themselves and their sense of suffering, and to let go of the burdens they carry. My job in that process is never to fix you or tell you what to do. Rather, it is to support you in discovering your own deep knowing about who you are and what you need.

I specialize in working with boys, teenagers, men, women, and families. If this is you, it is my goal to help you overcome the barriers and problems in your life that are keeping you from experiencing the freedom you are desiring. Often times, these problems are the result of trauma from childhood that is still unresolved. Perhaps you're experiencing anxiety, depression, grief, PTSD, sexual abuse, addiction (sexual, drug/alcohol, work), lack of self confidence, family issues, relationship difficulties, negative coping habits, physical or auto-immune disorders, or more. If so, I can help.

I utilize a combination of modalities including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), the Embodied Recovery Model for Eating Disorders (ERED), Polyvagal Theory, and various somatic interventions.
I work with adults and adolescents who are navigating eating disorders, self-esteem challenges, and embodiment issues. Our world often disconnects us from our bodies, making it hard to feel safe and present. As your therapist, my goal is to help you reconnect with your body, cope with challenges, be present in your relationships, and practice meaningful self-care and advocacy.

As a yoga teacher, I often incorporate mindfulness and somatic techniques into therapy sessions.
The process of looking for a new therapist can feel intimidating for the most seasoned therapy-goer. It takes courage to even think about opening up about your personal challenges, hopes, and desires. Maybe you’re struggling with stress, anxiety, or depression that’s making it hard for you to fully engage in life. Maybe painful experiences you’ve had left you feeling stuck in the past and disconnected from your present and future. Or maybe you are feeling as though you’ve hit a wall or reached a plateau with yourself or others. I offer a safe and inclusive space to share, process, heal, and expand on your strengths.

My clients want to connect to others but are afraid. They've learned in childhood that those that are supposed to love you don't always treat you well. Yet, their deepest desires are to be seen, heard, and accepted. My clients often carry shame or guilt while also knowing deep down that they have immense strength and worth. They have the desire to move forward and live a fulfilled life, but feel stuck. Does any of this sound or feel familiar? Great news: it doesn't have to be this way! Reach out to me! Together, let’s explore a path forward—a healthy way forward—so that you can thrive. After all, you deserve to thrive.

Living the life you dream of isn't always an obvious or straightforward path. Family of origin, divorce, unexpected loss, trauma, addiction... circumstances that interfere with a happy, successful life. Sometimes the help of a caring professional can mean the difference between being stuck and moving ahead. Thanks for visiting my site. I'm an experienced mental health and addictions therapist, working with adults suffering from depression, anxiety, substance dependence and other addictions. I'm also credentialed by the NCSAPPB as a Certified Clinical Supervisor to offer clinical supervision for other therapists.

During times of struggle, you have an absolute right to support from an attentive, warm, trustworthy witness - someone who believes in your strength and brilliance when you can no longer see it, and who stands by your side as you emerge as the architect of your own healing. My work and my passion is to be that witness. I entered into the field of mental health to uplift the experiences of those who often struggle to find responsive and attuned care. As a queer, biracial, Latine therapist and advocate, I am wholly dedicated to opening a space with you through which you can experience repair, discovery, growth and transformation.

Somatic Therapists

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
