Something crazy or intense happened. Maybe you know what it was or maybe you don't. Maybe it's still happening. Or maybe something has always felt a bit off or harder than seems necessary. Or maybe you just feel stuck. I would be happy to walk the path with you of finding ways to resolve, rebuild, and renegotiate how you respond to situations, people, and yourself. I am trained in many body- and nervous system-based modalities, such as Somatic Experiencing, NARM, BASE, co-regulating touch, Brainspotting, NLP, Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP), & EMDR. I also work with couples learning how to communicate better.

I use brain- and body therapies such as Somatic Experiencing and Brainspotting to support clients on both neurological and physiological planes.
Are you experiencing anxiety, depression, and/or a general feeling of loss? Do you find yourself reacting or having repetitive thoughts like "I'm not good enough" or "something is wrong with me?" Have you found talk therapy to not quite meet your needs? Sometimes, traumatic or stressful life events can cause us to feel disconnected from our environments and misinterpret what is safe/unsafe. In my therapeutic practice, I go beyond talk therapy to hold space for all human emotional experiences and responses. I seek to help you heal and increase moments of creativity, connection, and play in your day-to-day life.

As a graduate of Naropa Univerity's body-psychotherapy program, I have particular training in Somatic Psychology.
I whole-heartedly believe that you are the expert on you! I hold the framework in our work together that you contain the inner wisdom around what you need for healing and growth. My role is to help you identify, strengthen, and listen to that inner guidance. At times this inner-knowing can become muted or distorted.

I am also a somatic experiencing practitioner (SEP).
We often feel lost, stuck, and helpless when we struggle to find solutions to our everyday problems. At this point, our problems can become obstacles blocking us from living the best days of our lives. However, psychotherapy can help us overcome these obstacles by teaching us how to cope better with our emotions and thoughts, gain insight into our problems, make impactful changes, communicate effectively, find solutions, and stop engaging in self-sabotaging behaviors.

I have a depth and breadth of training / experience that informs my practice (psychoanalytic, somatic, attachment).
My hope is, the therapeutic "space" we create can become generous enough to invite our combined intelligences and curiosity to move toward a kind attending to your deep mysteries, desires, conflicts, motivations, (helpful and unhelpful) patterns, felt senses, griefs, losses, traumas and limitations. I hope this work might help you find the ground in difficulty and heartache, as well as empower you to build a life (within and externally) (within the confines of reality) that feels more genuine, connected, courageous, creative and even, sometimes, joyful.

Somatic Therapists

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
