I have advanced training in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and the Gottman Method for premarital and marital couples at decision points in their lives.
Relationships are my passion and focus. I counsel individuals and couples who are navigating conflict, communication issues, betrayal, infidelity, emotional detachment, depression and anxiety. I believe in the power of teamwork and relationships on our emotional and mental health. My therapy style is about connection, cooperation, and the healing of old wounds and past hurts that affect current behaviors. If you are stressed-out or not feeling like yourself I can help you bounce back from anxiety, self-doubt, imposter syndrome, depression, performance slumps and burnout.

With over 20 years of couples experience and Emotionally Focused Therapy, a therapy based on the neuroscience of love and emotion, I can help create change and lasting connections.
Overwhelmed? Struggling with relationship issues? An Affair? Step-parenting? Do fights with your partner remain unresolved? Life is messy and complicated. Smart, capable and successful people get caught in painful relationship patterns that leave them feeling disconnected, emotionally and physically. Do you feel important to your partner? Strong relationships hinge on the answer to this question. Whether I am working with a couple, family, or individual, I want my clients to learn their relationship patterns--what drives them, and more importantly, how to change them.

I’ve completed advanced training programs in Brainspotting and Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy.
Struggling with loss in a relationship? Betrayal? Abandonment? Shame? Living with or beyond illness? Maybe you are caring for a loved one who is chronically ill. We all get wounded. Seeking therapy is one way to care for yourself as you navigate these challenging experiences. Even in the most difficult times of life, we have an amazing capacity to grow, learn, connect, love, and to find meaning and purpose. This can be balanced with the uncomfortable feelings of grief, survivorship, loss of intimacy and sexuality. My deep compassion blended with fierce knowing, allows me to help people make significant changes.

You will have access to the skills I have learned from Emotionally Focused Couples Training and PAIRS training.
I work with couples stuck in unhappy relationships who won't settle for staying unhappy. Instead they want loving, supportive, and fun relationships. I help couples: 1) Uncover what the real problem is, face it, and create the relationship they desire. 2) Stop hurting each-other, learn how to communicate well, and be there for each-other. 3) Face past hurts, heal from betrayals, and address fears so they can trust their partners. 4) Do what it takes to change, reconnect with their integrity. 5) Learn to appreciate each-others differences so they are deeply understood.

Even strong, smart, successful people know when to utilize the help of experts. Maybe you’re not in crisis, just a couple in a “good enough” relationship, but some of the time things get painfully off track. Or an individual whose life seems to be going pretty well on the outside – but privately, you’re hurting. Sometimes, your ways of “getting by” turn into habits that need to be amended. It’s not always clear how to go about initiating change and it helps to have an objective perspective. Counseling is a great way to improve your life. Together we will explore, identify, and rebuild habits and patterns to provide lasting change.

You are committed to your marriage. You’re not looking for an out, but this isn’t what either of you signed up for. You don’t feel happy in your relationship and fear it is slipping through your fingers. Perhaps… you feel more like roommates than lovers. You don’t feel you can be yourself; it’s so awkward at times. You feel lonely, unable to remember the last time you had a real conversation or even laughed together. Instead, romance has become transactional, like a task on the checklist. You even question whether you are still in love and sometimes find yourself wondering if this relationship was a mistake.

I focus on relationships–with your significant other, family, friends, work, and even yourself. My passion & best work is with those facing life’s difficulties far too long, physically & emotionally drained, and feeling there’s no way out of the storm. You’re everything to everyone, always busy while feeling like you’re getting nowhere; all while looking like you have it all together. It’s overwhelming. You may never feel good enough. You may not find time to take care of yourself…or feel guilty when you do. That’s where I come in, to help you put yourself as an individual or as a couple first and find calm in the chaos.

Emotionally Focused Therapists

Who is emotionally focused therapy for?

Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.

Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?

People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.

What happens in emotionally focused therapy?

Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.

What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?

EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
