I have advanced training in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy and Brainspotting - two powerful evidence based interventions.
As a first generation bilingual Guatemalan immigrant, I am committed to providing therapeutic services to varying diverse communities. It can be difficult to find professionals with whom you can feel safe with. I am culturally aware and embrace all our differences. My relational approach helps me look at people as small parts of a bigger whole. I believe and trust in that "gut feeling", the voice within we sometimes ignore. I want to work alongside you to focus on the emotional healing, and start the process of restoring hope and confidence. I help people address anxiety, cultural issues, loss, and other life transitions.

I am trained in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy and the Gottman Method.
Feeling disconnected in your relationships? Feeling overwhelmed? Struggling to connect with those that matter most in your life? Sometimes life can be complicated and chaotic, which leaves the most capable and successful people feeling hurt and disconnected. I honor your courage in taking this first step to seek healing. Perhaps you are here because you feel stuck in your life, marriage or family; whatever pain you may be experiencing, it would be a privilege to partner with you on your journey towards greater peace and freedom as you break free of painful cycles and embrace peace in your life and relationships.

Many frameworks inform my approach to treatment, including emotionally focused and psychodynamic theories.
I help clients to move beyond beliefs of self-hate and doubt to feelings of self-love and celebration. My clients improve their self-compassion while healing past pain, leading to deeper connection with the people in their lives. We develop strategies to replace old coping mechanisms that are no longer helpful or never were. I believe we are all more than the worst things we have ever thought about ourselves.

I’ve completed advanced training programs in Brainspotting and Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy.
Struggling with loss in a relationship? Betrayal? Abandonment? Shame? Living with or beyond illness? Maybe you are caring for a loved one who is chronically ill. We all get wounded. Seeking therapy is one way to care for yourself as you navigate these challenging experiences. Even in the most difficult times of life, we have an amazing capacity to grow, learn, connect, love, and to find meaning and purpose. This can be balanced with the uncomfortable feelings of grief, survivorship, loss of intimacy and sexuality. My deep compassion blended with fierce knowing, allows me to help people make significant changes.

My goal is to help my clients decrease their undesirable symptoms and to bring awareness to the root causes of these symptoms. Ultimately, I want to help clients cope with current emotional stressors and then work towards a long-term solution to better prepare for the curveballs that life throws at us. I utilize a laid back and genuine approach with clients, and I find that a side of humor adds value to sessions as well.

Emotionally Focused Therapists

Who is emotionally focused therapy for?

Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.

Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?

People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.

What happens in emotionally focused therapy?

Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.

What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?

EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
