In addition to individual therapy with adults, I also work with children, adolescents and parents.
Being a human being isn't easy. Unfortunately, it seems we are destined at times in our lives to experience pain, fear, confusion, and difficulty. The good news is that it is often through befriending and understanding that which is most painful, frightening, or challenging that we grow and find more enduring freedom and peace. As a therapist, I see my role as offering the nurturing environment within which individuals can better understand themselves and their lives, overcome their challenges, and discover their true potential.

Call me today for a free 20-minute consultation to see if I’m a match for you and your child or teen!.
If you had a magic wand, how would your life be different? Would your child’s anxiety, fear, and struggles vanish? Could parenting become easy and conflict-free? When your child or adolescent struggles with behavioral, emotional, and trauma issues, it affects the whole family and makes you feel powerless and overwhelmed. Welcome to Invictus Counseling! I work with children, teens, and parents to address behaviors, emotions, and trauma and develop goals to overcome those obstacles. There’s no magic wand – but there is a way to help, to nurture, and to improve.

As your child learns skills for frustration tolerance, and as you, loving parent, shift from self-blame to empowered action, navigating stressors feels a bit more doable.
The phone rings- your heart skips a beat. It's your child's school again. Your kid hit another kid, refused to do their work, or didn't answer when the teacher asked them a question. You are desperate to not have this be another game of "let's see how long Jonny can last at school". It feels like your kid is constantly put on a Performance Improvement Plan (who knew those started so young?!) You've tried to talk to your child about "using gentle hands" "speak up when you need something" or "ask to take a break". While it seems that your kid hears the message, something gets lost in transition when they are back at school.

Whether I'm working with the whole family, the child, or parent individually, my goal is to help each family member thrive during the challenges they face.
Hello, I'm Erin, a licensed marriage and family therapist. I understand the stress and anxiety parenting can cause, especially when balancing life's demands becomes overwhelming. If your child's behaviors feel out of control or they have received a recent diagnosis, I can help. For the past 12 years, I have empowered hundreds of families struggling with parenting challenges - from daily pressures to major diagnoses like Autism. I recognize the immense grief, anxiety, depression, and isolation a diagnosis or a child with behavioral challenges can bring and how it affects the whole family.

When working with children and adolescents, I encourage parents to learn to work and communicate with their child or teen.
I work with individuals, couples and families. It doesn't matter how many people are sitting in the office, I view each individual within the context of the systems they live in each day. We are all part of many systems, marital, family, school, community, work. The relationships and importance each of these systems place on individuals can sometimes can lead to breakdowns in communication and mental health issues, such as depression and anxiety. Treating the dysfunction in the relationship often restores the feeling of wholeness in an individual and of course leads to stronger deeper relationships between individuals.

I'm moved by the longing of couples to be to be listened to with undivided attention, to be understood and accepted, to be seen in their virtues and appreciated, to be held with affection and delight, to be allowed to be themselves and shift from it's all about me to you need all the same things. Your criticism and force can step back when I help you care about your own wounds - that your partner can respect, but cannot heal for you. I walk with confounded parents to calm their reactions to their children's resistance. They feel ignored, failing to raise a caring and responsible son or daughter. Heart is heavy, values seem irrelevant. Unburden the heart so your children can hear your values, not your reactions. Couple and family difficulties have roots in old hurts where we managed with knee jerk reactions and attitudes of how things should be. I can help you hold perspective, where you value yourself when others discredit you, where you're open to feedback about what is not helpful without feeling criticized or angry. Therapy is not getting partners or children or peers to respond, it's being able to bring my values with conviction without being attached to the outcome

I enjoy working with individuals, couples, and children, with a broad spectrum of mental health concerns.
I believe that in order to change anything, we first need to understand and accept it. This is done through talking. I bring an empathetic, worldly, and multidisciplinary approach to help you gain a deeper understanding of who you are and what you want. We all repeat the same patterns through our lives that sometimes prevent us from happiness.Through therapy, we can start to observe those patterns, and then decide how we want to change them.

Life can be difficult at times, sometimes overwhelming. We may not trust ourselves to walk the path that is best for us, second-guessing and blocking our innate knowing of what is right and wrong. I work with adults, children and couples, providing a safe environment of warmth and unconditional positive regard, so that each person can have the space to discover who he or she is and what steps are needed to better manage conflicts. I work with those suffering from low self-esteem, trauma, relational and transition issues, chronic pain and addiction.

Acknowledging a need for support is the first step in fostering change in your family, and parents and caregivers deserve just as much support as the children they care for.
Life has thrown a lot of challenges your way, and lately it hasn’t felt as easy as usual to navigate them. You and your partner recently became parents and you want to align on your vision but your parenting styles feel so different. Not to mention it’s making you reflect on your complicated relationship with your own parents. Or your child has been struggling and you're at a loss for how to support them. They have been labeled as “the problem”, and no matter how hard you try, you feel as though you have failed as a parent. What’s more, the stressors of parenting are starting to have an impact on your relationship with your partner.

Humans are built for connection, and when that connection is safe and supportive, we can begin to attend to the most vulnerable parts of our stories. I believe that - together - we have the ability to move through and forward from what has hurt us. I work predominantly with women and LGBTQIA+ people (and couples) working through relational issues & trauma and who are wanting to explore the origins of their distress. I also work with children and adolescents, incorporating interventions from play and art therapy.

Parenting is one of life's greatest adventures. Amid the numerous books, experts, and voices out there it can be difficult to determine what to do when faced with a challenge. Parents of spirited, high-energy, rigid, anxious, or disruptive children or of those who carry diagnoses may feel alone with their challenges. As your psychologist, I offer empathy, support and a collaborative approach for fostering goodness-of-fit parenting in your family. That is, I help you to discover the most effective ways for you to parent your unique child.

Child Therapists
Child psychologists in 19102 provide mental health therapy to children and are experts in child development.

Every comprehensive review of therapy with children shows that all credible approaches, when performed by a competent mental health clinician, produce almost the same results. About half of all kids will get better. Of those that improve, 80% will show progress in a relatively short time (likely in fewer than six sessions), the remaining 20% will need longer-term support.

The best child therapists in 19102 build great relationships with the child and the parent. They also see the child's strengths and are open to hearing the child's possible solutions to the challenges the child faces. Finally, a good therapist appreciates the child's culture and is sensitive to the values of the child's community.
