I specialize in supporting kids over 8 years old and teens who have experienced trauma. My clients often feel sad, anxious, angry, and isolated. Many tell me they feel "stuck" and have difficulties with sleep, school, and friendships. These are clues to something deeper.

While other programs claim to be 'trauma-informed', our practice revolves entirely around trauma therapy. This is what we do best. The Phoenix Center for Experiential Trauma Therapy is named after the legendary figure of the phoenix that dies and is reborn from its own ashes – it is a symbol of transformation, resilience, and growth after trauma. While we cannot change the past, we can change how past experiences live within us! Sessions range from $200-125 with our therapists. Low-cost therapy sessions with our graduate interns range from $85-30.

I’m glad you found my page! Have you ever felt outcast from those around you, or less than others based on the intersectionality of your identities and how you present yourself? You may feel that nobody will understand that coming out later in life is possible- you are not alone. As a non-binary, pan, ace, neurodivergent and disabled therapist, I have lived experience with where you are right now. When you come to see me, you will be met with non-judgment, empathy, understanding, and compassion. You are always welcome to come as you are. Outside the zoom room I love nature, dance, and fostering animals!

I utilize eclectic approaches to customize a healing experience for you based on your strengths and growing edges. My practice is founded in a holistic mind-body-soul philosophy of healing and I believe all these components as well as our connections with others, our environment, self, and our Divine are all inextricable linked – in order for deep and lasting healing, all components must be considered and approached with love and grace. I am trauma-competent and I use approaches like EMDR, mindfulness, CBT / DBT skills, somatics, creative expression, movement, and music, to help you find a container of healing that works for you.

You get the oil changed in your car regularly so your car doesn't break down, right? Well, therapy is just like getting the oil changed in your brain. You may view therapy as a break from the hustle of your busy life, a workshop for your past, or a place to get the support you've been seeking. Guess what? They're all correct. Any reason you have for being on this page right now is the right reason to start or continue your healing.

I know starting therapy can be hard. I hope sharing about who I am as a therapist helps clarify if I feel like a good fit for you. Therapy is a relationship that centers you. I view connection and authenticity as strengths. I will take you and your needs seriously while celebrating your joy. I center consent and empowerment, depathologize responses to harm (systemic or otherwise), and value lived experience. I am non-judgmental, interested, understanding, and trust your self-knowledge. I show up attentively, with warmth and care. I believe in those I work with and am excited for what you will create for yourself.

When was the last time you took care of you? As a person that’s taking care of everyone else and the endless task list, you don’t remember the last time you took time for your needs or felt truly heard. And even though you are really doing an amazing job taking care of everyone around you, you’re exhausted, burnt out, and wondering when things will change. What if you could find a little peace in your day as you do all the 879 things on your list? What if you could change old patterns, learn to manage the emotional rollercoaster of life and find ways to reduce your stress, anxiety, and isolation. Your needs matter.

People often struggle with negative, self-defeating thoughts - often ones that they know are not completely true, yet nevertheless feel true. Many of my clients come to me because they want to make changes in their life - at work, school, or with family - but they feel trapped because of these negative thoughts. These thoughts can lead to excessive guilt, hopelessness, and indecision. As a therapist trained in cognitive behavioral therapy, I am committed to working together with you in helping you get unstuck.

Expressive Arts Therapists

What happens in expressive arts therapy?

In an expressive arts therapy session, the therapist will provide the space and materials necessary to encourage the client to express themselves creatively. These can include art supplies, musical instruments, a journal, a camera, and more. The therapist offers careful guidance throughout the creative process, often noticing and talking about psychological issues as they arise. Many clients also benefit from the mind-body connection—the physical act of making art can help them feel more grounded and present.

How long does expressive arts therapy take?

An expressive arts therapy session will typically last between 50 minutes and an hour. Group sessions may run longer. Sometimes, a client might only need one or two sessions of expressive arts therapy in conjunction with talk therapy to resolve a psychological issue. Others might find a fixed number of sessions over the course of either weeks or months to be beneficial. The duration depends on the client and their individual needs and goals for therapy.

How does expressive arts therapy help children?

Creativity is an important part of normal child development. Expressive arts therapy proves a safe outlet for child clients to learn to identify their emotions and express them in healthy ways. In expressive arts therapy, children can build their self-esteem, discover more about their personality and strengths, and feel a sense of normalcy in an otherwise chaotic world. This therapeutic approach can be particularly helpful for children with developmental disabilities, autism, ADHD, speech impairments, and other conditions.

What are the limitations of expressive arts therapy?

Sometimes individuals have physical limitations that can affect their ability to express themselves artistically in certain mediums. For example, someone with hearing problems might find it difficult to make music. Sickness and mobility issues can make some types of art physically inaccessible (e.g., sculpting, dancing, etc.). Sometimes, clients are overly skeptical and have trouble letting go and engaging with the creative process. Individuals who require a higher level of care may be better served with other types of therapy.
