I have worked with clients with issues such as marital problems, but they improved self-esteem, advocacy, and assertiveness in therapy, which reduced conflict with their spouse. My ideal client is someone motivated to change at the onset of therapy, who is committed to attending regular therapy sessions, identifies their goals, and focuses on a collaborative process to achieve their goals.

You deserve to be fully seen, and are worthy of being held. Reaching out to a therapist and finding the right fit can be a daunting task, but I hope you will take a deep breath and a moment to connect to have your questions answered. Relationship issues are so hard, even when they're going well. If you find yourself in the messiness of painful family history, attachment issues, big and unmanageable feelings, and are struggling to thrive, make meaning, and be graceful with yourself, believe me-I can relate. It's not too much to ask to heal your inner child by confronting the past that continues to show up in the present.

Do you struggle with anxiety/depressive-like symptoms? Do you have changes within your workplace or relationships? You may have goals to improve communication within the workplace and social/ family relationships, develop coping skills such as mindfulness and distress tolerance, and reframe thinking and response effectively within interpersonal settings. Achieving these goals would benefit you by improving self-esteem and attachment issues and obtaining a better quality of life.

It can be a hard decision to make to decide that you need to talk with someone, and be just as daunting to actually make that first appointment. You want someone who will be understanding and insightful, as well as challenging. You want someone who will be empathic and knowledgeable, with whom you can feel comfortable to talk, and know that you're speaking in confidence. I work with a wide range of challenges, including: Tension and stress, depression and mood disorders, anxiety, trauma, relationship issues, life changes, difficulties coping, panic, phobia, sleep problems, social phobia, and family stressors.

My ideal client would be willing to work with me systemically, meaning someone willing to look beyond themselves and think, “Why is this happening?” instead of just thinking they are the problem. For example, if someone is coming in to work on depression and anxiety, my ideal client would be willing to explore the underlying issues contributing to the depression and anxiety instead of someone who is only looking for coping skills and such.

Are you aiming to improve your relationships with the goal of creating a greater sense of community support? Are you self-motivated and interested in processing your life experiences to find patterns and make meaning of your emotional experiences? A typical client will be aligned with the belief in the importance of community and community care. I work with clients who are ready to do "the work." The expectation is that clients show up regularly and on time for sessions.

My passion is inspiring people to maximize their life potential by helping them release the ties that are binding them to unhappiness and suffering. The heart of counseling is not to give advice or to fix, the heart of counseling is to create the natural conditions for growth wherein the client (that's you!) evolves beyond the problems they are experiencing and discovers the depths of their own personal power that they can bring to any life challenge.

My ideal client is someone who may not be familiar with therapy but is open and eager to try it out. The ideal client would be a BIPOC individual seeking support on their healing journey. Someone who may have experienced trauma in their lives and is looking for a space where they can unpack, learn skills, psycho-education, explore, and express themselves in an inclusive environment.

Life can be challenging. Surviving life’s difficult challenges is a victory, but we are often left feeling overwhelmed, anxious, depressed and even self-critical. I am a firm believer that we are all doing the best that we can, but as we continue to manage ongoing stressors, we sometimes get stuck. Therapy can be a space to explore those feelings and seek new ways to find balance and healing.

Hi! I am Molly and have a genuine passion for helping people. Healing includes change, change can be uncomfortable, but that is when you know that you truly are healing and moving in a more positive direction with your life. My role is to help facilitate that change. Clients often come to therapy because they continuously are repeating patterns that are unhealthy and maladaptive. My job is to help you identify the patterns, to better understand yourself, and to help you reconnect with yourself.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in 14609?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
