Asking for help is one of the hardest things we can do - congratulations for making it this far! If you are struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, finding yourself relying on habits that don't feel healthy, or just feel that you are not living your fullest and happiest life, therapy can help. Life can feel overwhelming, and I believe that most everyone can benefit from working with a trained and skilled therapist at some point in our lives. Identifying and addressing problems head on takes ambition and courage, and having a safe space and empathetic support to do so is crucial.

I specialize in helping individuals feel better and get the life they want by using Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT). This approach is a practical, solution-focused therapy that explores how thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are interconnected. It helps identify and change negative thinking patterns contributing to emotional distress or difficulties. By teaching specific skills and techniques, CBT empowers individuals to manage challenges more effectively. It aims to break overwhelming problems into smaller parts, fostering a better understanding of oneself and developing strategies to cope better with life's ups and downs.

You haven't been feeling like yourself lately. It feels like a dark cloud is hovering over you making it hard to do the things you used to enjoy. You want to reach out to the people who love you and let them in but you're afraid they might judge you or not understand. It's becoming difficult to recognize yourself through the waves of dark thoughts and heavy feelings. A part of you is constantly reminding you of your shortcomings. You know logically this won't last forever but some days it's really hard to believe it. You want to get back to being the curious, confident and calm person you used to be before you got depressed.

*****NOT TAKING NEW CLIENTS...FORMER CLIENTS AND FIRST RESPONDERS FEEL FREE TO CALL*** Most mental health issues such as anxiety, depression and anger are results of life stressors. You can expect a full assessment and treatment plan at your first session. I truly believe that you have all the answers to your problems and I will help guide you to the solutions. I utilize a trauma-informed care framework to my practice. Sometimes past traumas and losses can impact and/or compound current life stressors, further exploration of past issues can be explored to gain insight, and to explore more advanced coping skills.

Life in general is hard. When you add financial problems and employment problems...or a history of childhood trauma...or domestic violence... or unhealthy substance use, it becomes difficult to function. Depression and anxiety appear. My thoughts about how people change is multilayered. It is important to identify all the things that are challenging you, gain some insight AND develop a path forward that involves changing your behavior to be better able to achieve the things in life that you want.

Let’s be real. Life can get messy. Many of us can find ourselves in a space where we are unsure about what to do anymore, despite our best efforts. But what we do know for sure, is that what we have been doing is no longer working for us. So now what? Sometimes we cannot change where we've been, but we can work on changing our present and future experiences into a life that reflects something closer to what we would like it to be.

I believe everyone has the innate capacity to heal, and approach therapy as a way of counteracting the influence of systems of oppression that can stand in the way of self-acceptance, embodiment, and connecting with others. I work with a variety of challenges to connection and wellbeing, including anxiety, self-worth, interpersonal relationships, gender and sexuality, trauma (CPTSD, intergenerational, identity-related), and integrating difficult emotions.

Life comes with many challenges and obstacles that may seem impossible to overcome. We all have an innate need to succeed and prove ourselves as worthy and deserving of good. There may be times when we feel overwhelmed, self-conscious, or inadequate and we don't want to be a burden to others, so we don't ask for help. It's at these times when we need that support most. The truth is, we all face these challenges and with some self-reflection, mental energy, and focus, we can overcome those barriers and develop skills to help ourselves that become second nature.

Welcome! I’m a therapist specializing in working with folks going through life transitions. Whether that means working through grief and loss, exploring one's identity, divorce, a career change, starting over in a new place, a medical event that results in a change in lifestyle, or stopping a habit that no longer serves you. I really enjoy helping people discover what gives their life meaning and exploring the big questions. I like getting philosophical! I'm also a big proponent of narrative therapy- owning your story and telling it the way you want to tell it rather than the way people tell it to you.

I use mindfulness, energy psychology, EFT, to relieve stress, heal trauma, anxiety, relationships. We work collaboratively, listening to conflicting parts and needs, discovering how to integrate these parts to fulfill your unique potential, talents, and power, learning to recognize and transform blocks to their fulfillment. With those who wish to explore spiritual aspects, we look at the meaning of experience, including mindfulness meditation, teachings from all religions, radical acceptance, emotional intelligence. We work on many levels, from practical decision making; connecting past and present issues; symptom abatement and coping skills, goal setting; to a spiritual search for the authentic self and its means of expression.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
